Depending on the entry qualification (bachelor degrees with less than 210 ECTS), acquisition of additional credits through an internship is required, which increases the duration of the course to a total of four semesters (120 ECTS).
Language of instruction
The language of instruction in the master’s degree programme in Climate Change Management is English. An English-language certificate at level B2 (CEFR) is required for the application.
Non-German-speaking students also receive instruction in German in preparation for the practical semester. A German-language certificate at least at level A1 (CEFR) must be presented by the end of the studies.

Course content
Climate change poses a major threat to all aspects of life on Earth: nature and humans are under pressure. Findings regarding this phenomenon are alarming and indisputable, and facets of it are present everywhere. While the knowledge base about the dimension and dynamics of climate change is constantly growing and the reasons and driving forces are generally well understood, the management of climate change is a complex challenge. Interdisciplinary skills are necessary in order to develop mitigation and adaptation strategies in the realm of land-use and nature management. The M-CCM focuses on solution-building for climate change mitigation and adaptation at farm to landscape level.

Course content
Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences at its campus Weihenstephan and the Swiss School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences (HAFL) in Zollikofen jointly offer this programme as a cooperative double master’s degree programme. The degree programme at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences bears the name “International Management of Forest Industries” (MSc), and at the Bern School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences is known as “Life Sciences – Applied Agricultural and Forestry” (MSc).
Course structure
The course can be started in the winter semester and the summer semester. The courses take place in hybrid form, which means that they are face-to-face and online at the same time. The summer semester is organized from the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Science in Weihenstephan and the winter semester from the Bern University of Applied Sciences in Zollikofen. Please note that the winter semester lectures in Zollikofen start at the beginning of September! The third semester is reserved exclusively for the master’s thesis.
Students enrol at one of the partner locations and study there until the end of the course. If the study location changes, it is not necessary to re-enrol as it is organised as an exchange semester.
Admission
- The master’s degree programme is aimed at graduates of diploma or bachelor’s degree programmes from the areas of forestry and wood management. A prerequisite for the master’s degree is the completion of a university degree in the following subject areas: Forestry, Wood Management, Management of Renewable Energies. Different admission requirements may apply in justified exceptional cases following approval by the Examination Commission.
- The classes are held in English. Applicants must prove their knowledge of the English language at language level B2. Here, you can find information on the accepted certificates.
- All applicants who did not acquire their study qualification at a German-speaking institution must prove sufficient German language skills (language level A1 or higher). If evidence cannot be provided by the start of the study programme, enrolment shall be conditional upon language level A1 being attained and verified during the course of study.
Admission is possible at both campuses and the relevant location’s study guidelines and examination regulations will apply.
Application
To support their application for the International Management of Forest Industries degree programme, applicants who completed their undergraduate degree outside of Germany will need to obtain a preliminary review documentation from uni-assist (Vorprüfungsdokumentation – VPD). Detailed information is available on our Website for International Applicants. An uni-assist evaluation report cannot be accepted instead of the VPD!

Admission requirements
Admission is decided through a selection process. The admissions requirements for the IMLA master’s degree programme are as follows:
- proof of completion of a degree or Diplom programme in landscape architecture, landscape planning, landscape construction, landscape construction and management, architecture, urban and spatial planning and development, or equivalent degree programmes degree from a German higher education institution or an equivalent degree from a university abroad
- degree with an above-average final grade (2.5 or better on the German grading scale)
- successful completion of the selection procedure based on the following criteria: focus of the first academic programme; average grade in the first academic programme; nature of final dissertation in the first academic programme; and the resulting expertise and experience acquired in respect of landscape architecture and spatial development.
Tuition and semester fees
The IMLA programme is free of tuition for all EU citizens.
Non-EU citizens are required to pay a tuition fee of € 750 per semester.
In addition, there are moderate administrative fees for all students (EU and non-EU citizens) of approximately € 150 per semester. The amount varies depending on the location of studies.

Course content
This challenging degree programme that looks to the future comprises the following practice-based subject specialisms: projects; international planning and design; planning and project management; information technologies in planning and design; and planning and design methods. The result is the provision of high-quality education and training. The education and training are closely tailored to the needs of employers and provide the necessary expertise and skills for scientific work within the discipline.
The IMLA has strong practical relevance. External specialists in the fields of management and digital planning methods play an integrated role in the teaching or are called upon to act as guest critics for project work. The entire team has excellent subject and teaching qualifications.
The IMLA is aimed at graduates in landscape architecture or related disciplines such as spatial and environmental planning, urban and metropolitan planning, architecture, or equivalent education and training with planning and spatial relevance.
The IMLA focuses on current aspects of landscape architecture, also from an international perspective. The current focus is on landscape architecture in periurban spaces.
The International Master of Landscape Architecture degree programme, first accredited in 2004, was one of the first master’s degree programmes to be accredited in the German-speaking world. With accreditation in accordance with the standards of the German Accreditation Agency for Study Programmes in Architecture and Planning (ASAP), the IMLA degree programme complies with the European-wide guidelines of the EFLA Education Policy Document and the worldwide guidelines of the UNESCO/UIA Charter of Architectural Education.
In addition to the bachelor’s degree programmes, the Department Landscape Architecture of Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences in collaboration with the Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Business and the Environment offers the IMLA (International Master of Landscape Architecture) master’s degree programme, which is conducted in English.
