FINANCIAL AID—SCHOLARSHIPS
The College of Medicine scholarship awards are based on financial need and alignment with the college’s mission. A FAFSA is required for any accepted applicant in the incoming class to receive a scholarship award offer, and the deadline to submit a FAFSA is January 31. While not required, students may submit a FAFSA by November 30 in subsequent years if their financial situation changes or if they missed the deadline in the prior year. Parental information is not required but encouraged for accepted applicants/students whose parents are expected to provide financial support.
FINANCIAL AID—GRANTS
WSU may offer institutional grants based on financial need, and a FAFSA with parental information is required in order to be considered. FAFSAs must be submitted for incoming students by January 31 and by November 30 for continuing students.

U.S. News and World Report named the Wayne State University School of Medicine a Top 100 medical school for research in its annual Best Medical Schools rankings.
The magazine ranked the School of Medicine 66th in research of the 188 medical schools eligible for ranking. Last year the school ranked 71st in the category.
The school also was ranked 89th in the category of Primary Care.
Known for urban clinical excellence focusing on medical and biomedical education, hands-on clinical experience, research and community care, the WSU School of Medicine also received top performing recognition for its ranking in Diversity and Medical Schools With the Most Graduates Practicing in Health Professional Shortage Areas.
This is the first year that the magazine published a ranking of the most diverse medical schools. The Howard University College of Medicine in the District of Columbia took first place in the new ranking, which considers the proportion of students who are Black or African American, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian or Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander.
The WSU School of Medicine ranked 26th among Most Diverse medical schools and 51st in Medical Schools With the Most Graduates Practicing in Health Professional Shortage Areas.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DOES WSU ACCEPT?
- If paying your account online, WSU accepts VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. There is a 2.5% nonrefundable service fee to use a credit card. E-Checks are also accepted online and there is no service fee for that method of payment.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I WANT TO PAY BY DEBIT CARD?
The debit card will be treated like a credit card. The 2.5% service fee will be charged. However, as the debit card is connected to a bank account, you can avoid the service fee by paying with an e-check instead. If you select the e-check payment option, the payment site will ask for your routing number and account number which may be obtained from your paper checks or by contacting your financial institution.

The single most important step you can take is to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at fafsa.gov. In order to keep receiving aid, you will need to do this every year.
WSU will use the FAFSA to determine how much institutional, state, and federal funding we can offer to you.
Almost everyone who files the FAFSA is eligible for student loans. Depending on your financial situation, you could also be eligible for grants, work-study jobs, and scholarships—aid you don’t have to pay back.

Eligibility Requirements
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
In order to receive federal student aid, you will need to meet the following requirements:
- Graduate from high school (or earn a high-school equivalent certification)
- Be accepted for enrollment in college courses working toward an associate, bachelor, or graduate degree.
- Be a citizen, or eligible non-citizen, of the United States.
- Have a valid Social Security Number.
- Certify that you intend to use financial aid for educational purposes, that you are not in default on a federal student loan, and that you do not owe money on a federal grant.
- Register with the Selective Service (if required).
Undocumented students who meet certain criteria may be eligible for state and university-based aid.
Please note that certain programs like the Administrator Credential Program are ineligible for financial aid due to the inherent structure of the program. Private loans are available for certificate programs.
