OSU offers RN to BSN | Oklahoma's Nursing Times

Oklahoma State University Nursing Program

The Nurse Science Department offers a program of study leading to an associate in applied science degree. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurse licensure (NCLEX-RN). The course of study includes classroom and laboratory instruction on campus, as well as supervised clinical experience at affiliating health agencies.

OSU-OKC Nurse Science Department offers the following options:

  • Traditional pathway:  The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) prepares students to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN).  This option is for those who wish to earn their first associate degree, as well as those who wish to change careers.
  • Transition pathway:  The LPN to RN and Paramedic to RN pathways prepare licensed practical nurses and paramedics to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Why pursue the LPN or Paramedic to RN pathway?

  • Increase earning potential
  • Capitalize on wider job availability
  • Learn the theory and critical-thinking skills needed to thrive as an RN
  • Play a more prominent role in the healthcare decision-making process

Why study Nursing, RN to BSN online through OSU?

Complete your Bachelor of Science in Nursing in as little as 9-12 months through our online program designed with maximum flexibility for working professionals. Our accredited program will prepare you for promotion, advancement and expanding leadership roles in health care. This completion degree is only available for transfer students and is designed for current registered nurses.

Curriculum

A registered nurse license from your designated U.S. state of residence, which provides advanced standing credit of 30 hours for an associate degree or a diploma in nursing, is required for admission. We encourage completion of pre-requisite courses prior to beginning nursing coursework at OSU. If nursing courses are started prior to completion of all pre-requisites, the time to degree completion could be extended.

Coursework includes nursing theory, global health, research and community nursing as well as an extensive review of culture, leadership and management principles and current trends and issues in the profession. Epidemiology and gerontology are also included in the curriculum. The program culminates in the capstone course. Two courses have a clinical component in which students complete clinical assignments according to their schedule in appropriate locations of their choice.

RN to BSN Program Requirements

Graduates will have completed a total of 120 semester credit hours, comprised of 60 credits of core curriculum pre-requisites and 60 credits of nursing major-specific credits.

The nursing major consists of the 30-35 credits of OSU BSN courses and 30 credits (eligible for credit by portfolio from approved nursing programs) awarded through a portfolio review of your accredited associates degree or diploma nursing program.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • The last 30 credit hours of BSN courses must be completed at OSU.
  • The first 60 credits are core curriculum pre-requisite liberal arts and science courses.
    • There is no expiration date on academic credit and you have the option of completing all 60 credit hours of these courses at the regionally accredited community college or university of your choice.
    • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for admission.

Nursing | Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City

Our nursing conceptual framework is based on Jean Watson’s caring theory and several other important concepts.

Southeastern Oklahoma State University Nursing Program

The actions of ACEN further validates the academic standing of our nursing program and supports the changes that have been made to further strengthen the program.  Each member of the nursing faculty has successfully met the challenges of assuring the curriculum and clinical experiences meet the needs of the professional marketplace.

Patterns of strength noted by the evaluators included affordability and accessibility through distance learning technology, strong library facilities with state-of-the-art on-line services, articulate and mature students who are committed to the program, strong community commitment and support, and evidenced support of the Northwestern administration for the program, faculty and students.

Northwestern offers a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSN) in Nursing. Since the inception of the Charles Morton Share Trust Division of Nursing in 1982, three tracks have been offered for obtaining a baccalaureate in nursing. A BSN provides the foundation of study that can serve as a basis for pursuing advanced education in nursing.

Nursing | Oklahoma State University

First, the four-year Generic or Traditional Track provides the educational opportunities essential for the preparation of a professional nurse. Upon completion of all program requirements, the Generic Graduate and the LPN -to-BSN track Graduate is eligible to write the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX-RN) to become a registered nurse (RN).

Northwestern Oklahoma State University Nursing Program

Second, the Charles Morton Share Trust Division of Nursing offers educational mobility to LPN’s who desire a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The Nursing program, in conjunction with the Oklahoma Board of Regents and the “Oklahoma Articulation Agreement” may grant college credit to those individuals who qualify for extra-institutional learning. See the Online RN-to-BSN program link for details.

Selection of students is based on the potential for success in completing the program. Acceptance into the nursing program is contingent upon meeting the following criteria and available enrollment space in desired courses

It is strongly recommended that all science courses be completed prior to the beginning of the nursing program. To be considered for admission to the program, students must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all required general education and nursing support courses. Successful completion of the nursing program requires a grade of C in all courses related to the Associate in Applied Science in Nursing. A student cannot be admitted to the program with a D in any required course.

Meet the NWOSU Admission requirements. Must provide a copy of official transcript(s) from all colleges/universities attended to the Northwestern Registrar’s office. Transcripts may be submitted by the student in person or by mail. The Registrar’s office also will accept transcripts sent electronically as official if they are sent via email to Sheri Lahr or Teri Warren directly from the issuing institution or the institution’s third party company (E-Script, Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse, etc.). These transcripts must be on file in the Northwestern Registry Office on the Alva campus.
