Some people join just for the benefits and the pay check, but others, such as me, apply because I enjoy it. The main question for many people, however, is what jobs are there in work in the army .
There are a wide variety of jobs to choose from when you join the army. The first thing you will need to do is decide which branch of service you want to enter. The branches consist of:
Air Force: Pilots, navigators, flight engineers and other crew members operate aircraft on land and sea. They also perform maintenance on aircraft.
Army: Engineers build roads, bridges, buildings and other structures. They also install communications equipment and perform repairs on vehicles and machinery.
Marines: Marines serve as infantrymen or in support roles such as special forces or communications specialists. They also may serve as pilots or crew members aboard naval vessels.
Navy: Sailors operate ships at sea or in harbors, perform maintenance on ships and their systems or assist with navigation while at sea.

Artillery can be used to provide fire support to the infantry or armoured forces. It can also be used as an offensive weapon against enemy positions.
Armoured
Armoured is one of the most sought after trades in the army. It’s a combat trade, so you’ll need to be prepared for the physical and mental rigors of training before you can join this elite group.
Aviation
- Aviation is a large part of the army. In combat and peacekeeping operations, aviation assets are used to transport troops, supplies and equipment. They provide reconnaissance and fire support. They evacuate casualties from the battlefield to medical facilities.
- You can become a helicopter pilot, fixed-wing aircraft pilot or air traffic controller.
Combat Engineer
Combat engineers are responsible for the construction and clearance of obstacles, demolition, landmines and unexploded ordnance. They also construct bridges, roads, airstrips and fortifications. Combat engineers are often called upon to conduct river crossings in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Combat engineers are trained to conduct route clearance operations using hand tools such as shovels, picks and axes. These tools allow them to clear mine fields without setting off an explosion or detonating any mines that may be present.
Signals and Information Systems (S&IS)
Signals and Information Systems (S&IS) is a branch of the Army. It is a technical branch with several different roles, including:
- Communications specialists that install, maintain and repair communications equipment
- Signal regiment staff officers who plan operations for their troops
- Signals intelligence operators who collect and analyse electronic signals from enemy equipment
Logistics
The importance of logistics is simple: without it, we wouldn’t be able to do much at all. Logistics is the management of the flow of goods between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet requirements of customers or corporations. This includes transporting items from one place to another, storing these items until they are needed, and delivering them (often through a delivery service). The word “logistics” comes from Greek meaning “to enlist men for battle.” In military terms, it’s used as a synonym for supply chain management—the process that makes sure that soldiers have what they need when they need it on battlefronts across the globe.
Supply, Admin and Transport (SAT)
Supply, Admin and Transport (SAT) jobs are often in the rear echelon. They may also be found in the field and air; or on water; or even in the desert.
Health and Support Services (HSS)
The Health and Support Services (HSS) is the largest branch of the army. It is responsible for the health, welfare, education and administration of all soldiers in The Royal Army.

This may include computer literacy or communication skills (such as written or spoken English). You’ll be able to demonstrate strong teamwork abilities under pressure and an understanding of how different parts of a business work together.
