The primary objective is for me to gain insight and practical experience in refugee-related issues. I want to understand the challenges that refugees face in their lives, how they cope with these challenges, and how Unhcr can help them. I also want a chance to see how the UNHCR works on a day-to-day basis and what kind of work they do.
Additionally, I wish to expand my knowledge of international relations by learning about the different policies surrounding refugees and their rights as well as those governing other areas such as gender equality or child protection. Furthermore, my internship will allow me to learn more about working in an international organization such as Unhcr whilst establishing contacts within this field which could prove beneficial upon completion of my degree at university.
In terms of skills development (the second goal), I hope that this placement will allow me apply some of the theoretical knowledge acquired from classes into practice through tasks like researching refugee situations around the world or drafting reports based on interviews conducted with people affected by civil wars etc..
