Waterford Institute of Technology (Irish: Institiúid Teicneolaíochta Phort Láirge) (WIT) is a state funded third-level educational freely available large scale institution situated in the city of Waterford, Ireland. The Institute has six Schools and offers programmes in Business, Engineering, Science, Health Sciences, Education & Humanities.
The institute opened in 1970 as a Regional Technical College and adopted its present name on May 7, 1997. The institute is currently headed by President Prof. Willie Donnelly

The major departments in WIT are:
Business – There are 13 undergraduate courses of bachelor’s degrees and 15 PG degrees. There are also 16 part-time degrees.
Engineering – There are 18 degrees for UG courses, 10 PG courses, 13 part-time courses, and 2 add-on courses.
Lifelong Learning & Education – 1 UG educational course & 3 post-graduate courses are available.
Health Sciences – There are 15 UG courses, 5 PG courses, 10 part-time courses and 2 add-on courses.

The UG course is of 3-4 years duration while the master’s degree course is of 2 years. After completing PG, the students can work at WIT. WIT has €200 million funds for research. It has collaborated with 350 industry and academic partners. It has three technology gateways, which include TSSG, PMBRC and SEAM.
Notable alumni from Arts include Gráinne Mulvey, an Irish composer, Irish Fiddler – currently the Head of Composition at Technological University of Dublin & Máiréad Nesbitt. WIT offers a wide range of taught and research programs at the postgraduate level across its 5 academic schools. While most of the Taught courses begin in September, research programs are carried out throughout the year.
