The UVA transfer acceptance rate is always selective, it ranges between 35 and 40%. Applicants who have completed at least one full-year (at least twenty-four semester hours after graduating from high school) of university studies before entering the University are considered the most competitive by the Admissions Committee.

Summer is not considered part of this minimum of one year. Transfer students who enroll in AVU must spend at least two full years in residence at the University.

Students who have completed three or more years of study at another four-year college or university at any time are not eligible for transfer admission to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Students who already have a bachelor’s degree can apply for a second university degree only at the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences (with the exception of those who have already obtained degrees in engineering or physics. These students are rarely proposed because we prefer to give their place to students who have not yet obtained the diplomas mentioned above).

High school or home education students MUST apply as freshmen, even if they have a double enrollment and will have their associate’s degree upon graduation. High school students who live at home and are taking high school and college courses while still enrolled in high school are not classified as transfers and must register for the first-year class.

UVA accepts transferred students but the student must have at least a 3.0 University GPA, and ideally a 3.5 GPA.
