The Soules College of Business at UT Tyler supports the career development of our students. Soules College of Business majors get the following career development training as part of their degree:

  • Professional Branding – Development of a “Professional Brand,” which includes a self-assessment and creation of an elevator speech.
  • Resume Writing and Cover Letter Development – Creating a professional resume, complete with cover letter and reviewed for quality.
  • Electronic Portfolio – Development of a LinkedIn profile to establish a professional online presence prior to graduation.
  • Dress for Success – Instruction in professional attire, preparing students to dress for success.
  • Etiquette Dinner – Participation in a business and dining etiquette dinner to enhance professionalism at social dining events.
  • Offer Negotiations – Training on negotiating and accepting or declining a job/business offer in a professional manner.
  • Mock Team Interviews – Participation in a mock team interview in which local businesses provide a professional interview experience and direct feedback on a student’s interviewing technique.

History

The Soules College of Business began as the School of Business in January 1973. In 1998, The University of Texas at Tyler School of Business Administration was approved for accreditation by AACSB. UT Tyler launched an online Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2000. In 2008, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board authorized the Ph.D. in Human Resource Development program. The Department of Computer Science and Computer Information Systems was added to the College of Business School of Technology in 2014.

Naming of Soules College of Business

On February 19, 2018 The University of Texas at Tyler announced that it would rename the College of Business and Technology to Soules College of Business. The new name is part of an agreement for John Soules Foods to make a major investment supporting student success at the college.

The investment will be the largest single private contribution to the university in its history. The contribution will augment the university endowment, providing funds in perpetuity for Soules College of Business student scholarships, business innovation grants and research.

Soules College of Business Today

In August 2018, The University opened up the new 140,000-square-foot Soules College of Business. The largest of UT Tyler’s six colleges, the Soules College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering (ATMAE), and the Category Management Association, one of only four schools in the nation to receive such distinction.

Student Organizations

The Soules College of Business has several student organizations, including: ATMAE, Accounting Society, Beta Alpha Psi, Beta Gamma Sigma, Soules College of Business Ambassadors, ENACTUS, Epsilon Pi Tau, Financial Management Association, and SHRM.
