International admission round

We strongly encourage all international students to apply for programmes in the international admission round.

You apply through the website www.universityadmissions.se. This is a national central application system, which means that you can apply for several different programmes and/or courses at different universities in Sweden with one application. On www.universityadmissions.se, you are able to create a user account, search for programmes and courses, create an online application, submit supporting documents, pay the application fee (if required), check status of your application and reply to offers of admission. When applying for several different Master’s programmes, you must rank them in order of preference. You will also be required to provide documentation to support your application, such as academic transcripts and English test results. Some Master’s programmes will also require you to provide more extensive documentation. For more information, please view the individual programme information and www.universityadmissions.se.

Swedish admission round

If you are an EU/EEA citizen (or if you already have a residence permit in Sweden or the EU/EEA) and you have missed the international application round, it may be possible for you to apply for some programmes and courses in the Swedish admission round. However, please note that most international programmes will not be open for applications in this admission round.

In the case that you are able to apply for your programme in the Swedish admission round, you apply at the national application website for Swedish students www.antagning.se. The website is entirely in Swedish, but the steps for applying are the same as when you apply through www.universityadmissions.se.

Please be aware that the admission results are announced very close to the start of the academic semester. Therefore, students who need a Swedish residence permit will not have time to obtain one before the start of the semester. Due to the housing situation in Uppsala, students who are admitted during the second admission round must also be aware that it will be extremely difficult for them to arrange accommodation at such a late time.

This information also applies to applications to freestanding courses.

Several of Uppsala University’s Master’s programmes will also open for application in July 2021. However, only students who are EU/EEA citizens will be able to make use of this opportunity. It is not yet known which programmes will open application in July, and students must apply through the Swedish application system www.antagning.se. Please contact the programme coordinator before applying.

Uppsala University Fees For International Students

We strongly encourage you to apply to programmes, pay your application fee, and submit all required supporting documents (including certified proof of your citizenship) by the given deadlines, in order to ensure that your application will be processed and considered. Applications received after the deadline are regarded as late and there is no guarantee that your late application will even be processed.

Late applications

If you submit your application, pay your application fee, or submit any supporting documents  after the given deadlines, your application will be regarded as late. Once the application period closes, admissions officers will begin by assessing applications that were submitted on time. After this process is completed, and only if there are still places available in the programme, late applications will be considered.

Procedures for late applications differ in the second admission round, where students apply through the Swedish application website www.antagning.se. After the deadline has passed, all programmes and courses close for application. Once applications that were submitted on time are processed, and if there are still places available in the programme or course, it will reopen and students will be able to submit a late application.

Students who submit a late application will not be eligible to receive a scholarship. It is therefore important that you submit a complete application on time.

If you are admitted to a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme, you must be in Sweden when the programme starts. If you are prevented from participating in the first class of the semester, you should send an email to [email protected] or contact your programme coordinator directly, let them know that you are not able to start the programme on time, and ask for the last possible date that you can arrive. You must receive written confirmation that you are still allowed to commence the programme before travelling to Sweden.

If you are a fee-paying student and are not permitted to join your programme after the semester has commenced, please send an email to [email protected] along with the decision from your programme coordinator.

If you are admitted to a programme and want to postpone the commencement of your studies, you can apply for deferral of studies.

Your application should explain your reasons for deferral and be supported by documents. University policy only approves deferral based on extraordinary circumstances, such as medical reasons illness, family crisis or compulsory military service. If you refer to medical reasons, for example, you need to submit a doctor’s certificate. Not being able to afford tuition is not a valid reason for deferral. In fact, you can only be granted deferral if the first instalment of tuition has been made to Uppsala University.
