Visa Application Process

International aspirants seeking enrolment into a program of duration of 6 months and more requires a study permit and visa to study in Canada. Visa can be obtained from the nearest Canadian Embassy and should be applied for as soon as you receive the offer of place.

If you’re a legal resident of coming from countries including China, India, Morocco, Pakistan, the Philippines, Senegal, or Vietnam, you can also apply via Student Direct Stream (SDS) for processing your permit faster.

To qualify for SDS, following are the documents that are mandatory specifications and must be submitted. 

  1. Copy of acceptance letter.
  2. Proof of first year paid tuition fee.
  3. Proof of Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) for 7,500 USD.
  4. Medical exam.
  5. Qualifying language test score

English – 6.0 or more in each skill (IELTS)

French – TEF score equal to a Canadian Language Benchmark minimum score of 7 in each skill.

Note that candidates failing to meet SDS requirements can always apply through the regular process, either online or at Visa Application Centre.

Tuition rates

Graduate co-operative programs: A fee in the amount of $739.00 per four-month work-term will be charged to students using the services of Co-operative Education.

Non-degree graduate students pay the research/coursework Master’s rate indicated below, plus incidental fees.

Qualifying graduate students pay fees at the year two undergraduate per-course fee corresponding to their program. For more information, please see the undergraduate fee schedule.

International Students with special tuition arrangements: An International student admitted under a specific scholarship agreement through a formalized partnership with Waterloo may be assessed domestic tuition, as per the agreement. See your Offer of Admission Department Details for an explanation as to whether your external scholarship funding is approved for domestic tuition assessment. If you are eligible for the special tuition arrangement, review the Fee Schedule for Canadians and Permanent Residents.

Tuition and residence refunds

Withdrawal or program completion effective on or before the 100% refund deadline will result in all of your charges for the term being removed. Withdrawal or program completion effective on or before the 50% refund deadline will result in a 50% adjustment to the charges for tuition and student services fees only. All other charges will remain on your account.
