University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest (University of Veterinary Medicine) is a unique educational institution, established in 1787 as an animal department at the Medical Faculty of the University of Pest (now Budapest). In 1851, the department gained independence and the status of the royal institute, in 1960 – the status of an independent university, in 2000 it was incorporated into the University of Szent István University, and in 2016 it became independent again.
