University of Stuttgart Architecture
Architecture is the science and art concerning the design, technical, economic, ecological and social planning of buildings. This involves identifying and coordinating many complex requirements. These include everything from the historical and social environment to functionality, design, and economics, to the suitability of the means and materials used. The quality of architecture, including interior architecture and urban planning, is measured by the comprehensive consideration of and provision for all of these requirements.
A general education makes way for a flexible career after graduating. Jobs in the field of architecture and construction range from architectural artists and design architects, who concentrate on architectural theory and visual arts, to engineers, who technically design buildings or furniture, to construction site foremen.
The University of Applied Sciences is situated in the center of Stuttgart, the “City of Architects”, and is a university with a nationwide reputation that unifies all multidisciplinary skills of construction in one location. The bachelor/master system offers challenging courses in architecture, interior architecture, urban planning, and project management, where students will be imparted solid knowledge on design, technology and organization.
The focus is on a strongly practical approach to planning and construction, as well as other, integrative teaching methods. Students work intensively on campus, in the studio, and in small groups. All of this is with direct supervision from professors and visiting lecturers from the departments of architecture, interior architecture, urban planning and project management, as well as the neighboring specialized departments of building physics, civil engineering, and surveying.

Programme
The Bachelor programme as the first stage in our Bachelor-Master-System in Architecture begins in the winter and summer semester. The period of studies is six semesters including the Bachelor thesis.
Profile | Practice
Our Bachelor-Master-System is the further development of the traditional architectural education at the HFT Stuttgart. Complex requirements are made of architecture, from the relation to the historical and social environment to functionality, design, and economy right up to the appropriateness of the materials used. The quality of architecture is measured by the holistic and sustainable consideration of all these requirements. Our Bachelor programme, therefore, teaches you contemporary principles and methods. Clear evaluations standards allow you to work independently. The strong relation to the practice of planning and construction as well as the generalistic orientation of all components allows you a flexible further professional path after completion of your degree.
Structure | Modules
The Bachelor’s course is modularised. The focuses of the modules are technical, artistic and organizational basic competencies. The crucial features are therefore our integrated projects, which teach you an interdisciplinary working method and team skills. These are precisely the contemporary principles and methods that you can no longer be without in your daily work. You can determine part of your study programme yourself with our major subjects in the 3rd and 4th semester. Further special features of our Bachelor degree are individual supervision, close collaboration with architectural offices, the possibility of studying at one of our partner universities abroad for a semester or learning the desired foreign language directly at the HFT. Obligatory excursions enable you to study contemporary architecture and classics of construction history on location and get to know other forms of urban life in Germany and abroad.
Degree | Bachelor of Arts
Our Bachelor’s course is the first section of the consecutive Bachelor-Master degree according to the guidelines of the UIA (Union Internationale des Architectes). On successful completion, you will be awarded the title Bachelor of Arts (B.A. architecture). This gives you the opportunity to go directly into the profession or to go on to a Master’s course.
