Admission forms and fees

Note that application fees are non-refundable and vary, depending on the form, so be sure to pick the right one. Most applications are done through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC). However, applications for the Spring-Summer term, certificates and some programs listed in the second section must be submitted directly through the University of Ottawa.

Full-time programs in one of the following faculties:

Arts, Civil Law Section (Faculty of Law), Engineering, Health Sciences (except for applications for the BSc Nursing for Registered Nurses), Science, Social Sciences or the Telfer School of Management

These forms are intended for individuals who have never attended the University of Ottawa or Saint Paul University.

These forms are for all individuals who want to be admitted to the faculties of Education, Medicine or the Common Law Section of the Faculty of Law, regardless of whether they have studied at the University of Ottawa or elsewhere.

University of Ottawa Admissions 2022

  • Programs: The University of Ottawa offers more than 450 programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. It also offers various Doctorates, Certificates, and Associate programs through its 10 faculties.
  • Enrollments: UOttawa receives applications around 82,286 and accepts only 10,481 marking the acceptance rate to 12%. Due to the low acceptance rate, admission at Ottawa become highly competitive.  
  • Application Deadlines: The university invites applications from international applicants for fall and winter sessions. The upcoming deadline for the Fall semester is marked for February 1, March 1, and April 1.

University of Ottawa Admission Deadlines

The University of Ottawa accepts applications for admission from international students only during Fall and Winter intakes. International applicants are advised to apply as soon as possible because it can take up to six months to obtain a student permit to study in Canada depending on the applicants’ country.

University of Ottawa International Student Admission

The University of Ottawa is home to more than 7000 international students studying at various levels in the university. International applicants who desire to complete their higher education in Canada at uOttawa will have to satisfy certain additional requirements to gain admission.

Admission Requirements: 

  • Academic transcripts and previous academic records in English certified or notarized. The applicants must have 70% to 75% or above marks in their academics.
  • Along with the Nonrefundable application fee, the applicant may submit the online application.
  • English language proficiency has to be demonstrated through standardized tests taken for the purpose like IELTS, TOEFL, etc. Or French language proficiency
  • Financial documents showing enough funds to cover the fees. Under SDS rules GIC account with 10,000 CAD needs to be opened either with Scotia or ICICI bank.

Language Proficiency Requirements

All international applicants applying to study in Canada at the University of Ottawa must be proficient in either English or French to be eligible for admission at the University of Ottawa.

English Language Requirements

International students applying for English-language programs and have not completed at least three years of full-time study in an institution where English is the only language of instruction must submit an official score in one of the English language tests.

Canada Visa for International Students

International applicants who receive their acceptance letter from the University of Ottawa are advised to apply for the required visa/student permit as soon as possible. To study at uOttawa or any other Canadian institution, applicants need a Canadian student visa also known as a Study Permit and a temporary resident visa.

Applicants are required to provide the following documents for both the study permit and the temporary visa:

  • Valid passport
  • Specified application fee (billed in CND)
  • The offer of admission received
  • Evidence of sufficient funds
  • Medical exam
  • Biometrics

Applicants must note that while the required documents are the same for both permits, their applications have to be submitted separately. Moreover, this whole process may take up to six months.

University of Ottawa Undergraduate Admission

The University of Ottawa offers more than 100 undergraduate courses in the field of Art, Education, Engineering, Health Science, Law, Management, Science, Medicine, Social Sciences. Some of the courses are available in both English and French.
