Admission Requirements

Freshmen and Transfer applicants that have never attended UMass Boston as a matriculated student must apply through University Undergraduate Admissions.

Students applying for the Fall 2020 semester and beyond are required to take the TEAS exam*. Please read the TEAS FAQ’s here
*Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, TEAS exam scores will not be required for the Fall 2021 admissions to the accelerated or traditional nursing programs.

Freshmen:

  • The average minimum GPA has been around 3.2 during the last few cycles
  • A “waiting list” is generally created for a small group of students below the minimum GPA. These applicants are considered for admissions if we do not reach our yield goal.
  • Applicants may be offered acceptance to their secondary option if they are not accepted to Nursing. Please contact Undergraduate Admissions for further information.

Transfer:

  • The average minimum GPA has been around 3.4 during the last few cycles
  • A “waiting list” is generally created for a small group of students below the minimum GPA. These applicants are considered for admissions if we do not reach our yield goal.
  • Applicants may be offered acceptance to their secondary option if they are no accepted to Nursing. Please contact Undergraduate Admissions for further information.
  • Students applying for the Fall 2020 semester and beyond are required to take the TEAS exam. Please read the TEAS FAQ’s here

Notes:

  • Science GPA is calculated from the following college-level courses: Anatomy and Physiology 1&2, Microbiology, and Nutrition.
  • Transfer students are not required to have a science GPA to apply. Science GPA is only calculated if applicants have completed any of these courses.
  • There are no prerequisites to apply.

Applicants that are current or previous UMass Boston students must apply by completing an Inter-College Transfer (ICT) application. Applicants that have earned a previous Bachelor’s degree from UMass Boston must apply by completing a University of Massachusetts Second Degree Application. Both ICT and Second Degree Applications must be submitted to the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
