The Master of Arts in American Studies at the University of Missouri is a flexible program that can be tailored to a student’s individual needs and interests. Students complete either a thesis or a scholarly paper, and if they opt for the latter, take additional coursework.

Students must complete 30 credits comprised of nine credits of required courses and 21 credits of elective courses for the non-thesis option. The nine credits of required courses include Introduction to American Studies, Methodology, and a seminar in American Studies. Students must also complete three courses from each of these areas:

Area 1: Research Methods

Area 2: Social Scientific Approaches

Area 3: Humanistic Approaches

For the non-thesis option, students must also pass comprehensive written and oral exams in two fields (6 credits) and complete 6 credits of scholarly paper research. A scholarly paper is an original piece of writing that analyzes the sources and makes an argument about them. UMD is a highly popular school with tens of thousands of interested applicants. If you want to study computer science, the College Park campus may not be the best option for you. With 44% acceptance rate, it’s one of the more competitive schools in Maryland.

But don’t let that stop you from applying! The school has many amazing programs and resources for students who do get accepted. There are 28,390 undergraduate students enrolled at this large institution. Computer Science, Biology, and Economics are among the most popular majors.

We’re proud of our master’s in computer science program here at Towson. Not only does it provide a comprehensive curriculum that gives students a solid scientific and technical foundation, but it also prepares them for the real world.

In fact, our students have found high-profile jobs as software developers, web developers, computer security analysts and e-commerce analysts—not to mention in academia. But we think the real reason so many of our graduates are finding success is because our program combines in-depth study with real-world experience. You’ll be learning from instructors who are active researchers themselves and have years of experience in the field—and you’ll be working on research projects that offer hands-on experience with emerging technology.

Plus, there’s no better place to be a CS major than Maryland. It’s one of the most tech-savvy states in the country!
