The department offers two options for students interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering:
Our traditional B.S. degree program is designed to prepare students for careers as aerospace professionals with expertise in both aeronautical and astronautical applications. Students who choose this option will complete a core curriculum that includes coursework in mathematics, physics and chemistry, as well as specific coursework in mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. Students also complete core classes in aerospace engineering, including aerodynamics, thermodynamics, propulsion and flight mechanics/controls.
Our interdisciplinary B.S./MSE degree program provides students with a strong foundation in mathematics and science while allowing them to focus on either aeronautical or astronautical applications during their junior and senior years. Students who choose this option will complete their core requirements during their first two years at Illinois while taking courses that focus on either aeronautics or astronautics (depending on their chosen concentration).
