Contemporary researchers continue to open up new frontiers of knowledge such as the discovery of exoplanets or superconducting materials.

UNIGE offers more than 290 types of degrees and more than 280 Continuing Education programmes covering an extremely wide variety of fields: exact sciences, medicine, humanities, social sciences, law, etc. Its domains of excellence in research include life sciences (molecular biology, bio-informatics), physics of elementary particles, and astrophysics. UNIGE is also host and co-host to six National Centres of Competence in Research: PlanetS, SwissMap, Chemical Biology, Affective Sciences, Synaptic Bases of Mental Diseases and LIVES-Overcoming vulnerabilities in a life course perspective.

Research
Due to its high level standards in research and its many disciplines, the UNIGE is ranked among the best three generalist French-speaker universities and among the 150 best universities in 20’000 worldwide universities. Research projects cover more than one hundred topics, from exact sciences, natural and medical sciences to social sciences and humanities. Every year this leads to fruitful results such as 3’300 publications. Therefore, the UNIGE research strengths are life sciences (genetics, molecular and chemical biology, bioinformatics), physics and chemistry, astrophysics and also some specific fields in social sciences and humanities.

NEW: Starting in the academic year 2021/2022, the University of Geneva have launched a new portal for the submission and follow-up of applications for the Geneva School of Social Sciences, Master’s degrees and certificates. Applications for these programs are closed since February 28, 2021.
For all other programs offered by the UNIGE (including bachelor’s degrees and doctorates offered by the Geneva School of Social Sciences), please follow procedure 1 below.

PROCEDURE 1: STEPS TO THE APPLICATION PROCESS (FOR NEW APPLICANTS)

Before you begin the enrollment procedure, please use the “guide” to find out about the conditions of enrollment, conditions of admission, deadlines, documents to provide and registration fee.

1. Create an ORISIS account

If you fulfill the conditions of enrollment and are within the deadline, create an ORISIS account. You will have to create an account with a login (your personnal e-mail address and a password). You will receive an email asking you to confirm the creation of an ORIS account by clicking on a link. This link will take you to the next step.

N.B. If you have already created an account, go to the next step – even if you have lost your password (you will be able to request the generation of a new password).

2. Complete the online application for enrollment

> Click here to go to the online application form if you already have an ORISIS account.

Please note:

  • The enrollment process is available to candidates who have never been enrolled at UNIGE before. If you have studied at UNIGE before, please click here.
  • If you are still enrolled at another Swiss higher education institution and want to apply to UNIGE for the coming semester: complete the procedure within the deadline, even if you are not yet unregistered from the other institution. Simultaneous enrollment in two Swiss higher education institutions is not possible, so enrollment at the UNIGE will only be effective upon receipt of the certificate of exmatriculation and after admission by the faculty concerned. Without this attestation of exmatriculation, enrollment at UNIGE cannot be confirmed.

If you wish to apply to several programs, complete only one online enrollment application:

  1.     At Bachelor’s level: select the course requiring pre-registration or having a specific registration deadline (e.g. for Medicine or Translation & interpreting)
  2.     At Master’s level: select the course that interests you the most.

Then, on the printed version of the form, indicate by hand all the other courses you are applying for. It will not be possible to apply later, after the deadline.

3. Pay the registration fee of CHF 65

If requested at the end of the online registration application form (after the confirmation), pay the fee of CHF 65, which is used to cover the processing costs. (Required for applicants who hold, or are about to hold, a foreign or international upper secondary school diploma; not required for all for applicants who hold, or are about to hold, a Swiss secondary school certificate: in this case, registration is free of charge).

Payment must be done online only. It can be made by one of the following means: credit card, PostFinance, Paysafecard, Paypal (which allows you to fund an interim account) at the time of application or at the latest by the application deadline. No other means of payment (for example, cash or check) is accepted.

To return to the payment page:

  • Return to the ORISIS account and enter your username and password
  • Click on ” Formalities required for completion of the application”
  • Then on ” Method of payment for applicants with foreign or international diplomas”
  • Follow the instructions

The registration fee is deducted from the first semester’s university fees. It is not reimbursed in case of rejection, withdrawal, or failure to finalize the application, regardless of the reason. It is not transferable to a later semester.

4. Assemble an enrollment file

Gather the parts listed in the guide under “Documents”. (A non-exhaustive list can also be found at the end of the PDF version of the enrollment application form once printed.)

In addition, please make up a second application file in the following cases, and send it all together, by mail, to the Admissions Office:

  • If you are applying for a bachelor’s degree and wish to obtain equivalence of credits acquired during previous university studies. Optional approach, offered under certain conditions, for certain faculties/institutes/schools only
  • If you are applying for a master’s degree, depending on the faculty/institute, complete the application form for a master’s progam (one complete file for EACH program for which you are applying – if required by the faculty/school)
  • If you are applying for a complementary certificate, depending on the faculty/institute, complete the application for admission to a complementary certificate (one complete file for EACH program for which you are applying – if required by the faculty/school)
  • If you are applying for a doctorate, depending on the faculty/institute, complete the application to a doctoral program (one complete file for EACH program for which you are applying – if required by the faculty/school)

5. Submit your enrollment file within the required deadline

Post, in a single envelope, the complete enrollment file and the second file (equivalence or admission in master/CC/doctorate if necessary) within the required deadline, to :

Admissions Office, Uni Dufour, rue du Général-Dufour 24, CH – 1211 Geneva 4.

The postmark will be taken as proof of the date of dispatch of the file within the required deadline.

Payment must be done online only. It can be made by one of the following means: credit card, PostFinance, Paysafecard, Paypal (which allows you to fund an interim account) at the time of application or at the latest by the application deadline. No other means of payment (for example, cash or check) is accepted.

The registration fee must be paid only once, even in case of multiple applications.
