University of Bari Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is a university located in Bari, Italy. Founded in 1810, it is one of the oldest universities in Italy. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in veterinary medicine, as well as postgraduate degrees in biomedical sciences.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was founded by King Joachim Murat on 10 January 1810 and was inaugurated on 23 March 1811 with 30 students. In 1828 it became part of the University of Bari, which had been established by Murat two years earlier. In 1879 the faculty became autonomous from the University of Bari, although it continued to host some courses at the university’s facilities until 1977 when a new campus was completed near Ostuni. In 1998 it was renamed as “University of Bari” after being separated from its former host institution.[1]
The University of Bari Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was founded in 1983 as a Center for Advanced Studies and Research. Its aim is to provide teaching and research facilities to students who are enrolled in the Department of Veterinary Medicine, but also to those from other faculties of the University.

The Faculty occupies an area of 9,000 m2 on two levels and comprises 20 large classrooms, two laboratories for anatomy and physiology, three laboratories for microbiology, seven laboratories for pathology and parasitology, two amphitheaters with a total capacity of 200 seats each, one amphitheater with a capacity of 70 seats and many smaller rooms equipped with audio-visual equipment.
The Faculty has state-of-the-art research facilities including electron microscopes, histological equipment (microtome), hematological analyzer, blood gas analyzer, centrifuges and other instruments used in clinical chemistry and biochemistry tests (such as spectrophotometer).

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was established in 1980 and is the youngest faculty of the University of Bari. The faculty offers five academic programs: veterinary medicine, veterinary dentistry and surgery, veterinary hygiene and animal health, veterinary biomedical sciences, veterinary pharmacology and toxicology.
The faculty has about 700 students enrolled at any given time, including about 30 foreign students from countries such as Germany, Hungary, France and Austria.
