The University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix is an allopathic medical school located in Phoenix, Arizona. It is one of six medical schools in the state and is one of four medical schools affiliated with the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. Established in 1994, the college was originally located on the campus of the UA South Campus, but moved to its own facility in 2003.
The college’s mission is to “train physicians who will become leaders in medicine through a curriculum that emphasizes clinical skills, communication skills and research; provide state-of-the-art educational resources for teaching and learning; promote excellence in patient care; support faculty scholarship and research; and foster community service.”
The university’s medical school has had several notable alumni include former Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard (Class of 1975), former U.S. Representative John Shadegg (Class of 1981), former U.S. Senator Jon Kyl (Class of 1975) and current U.S Senator Jeff Flake (Class of 1985).

The University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix (AZCOM) joined forces with Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH) in 2001. PCH provides clinical training opportunities as well as research opportunities for students at AZCOM. Students also have access to Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, Banner Health North Campus, Banner Health South Campus and Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center.

The college’s curriculum is designed to teach students how to think like a physician and how to diagnose, prevent and treat diseases. The university has been recognized for its commitment to diversity in medicine and its efforts to increase the number of underrepresented minorities entering the field of medicine.
The college offers an MD degree with four different tracks: general internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics or psychiatry. Students who graduate from any of these programs will be eligible for certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in their chosen field.
The college has a long history at UA, including its affiliation with the University Hospital and Clinics since 1952. It was granted independent status in 1978 as part of a statewide reorganization that resulted in three medical schools: UA Medical Center; Tucson Medical Center; and Phoenix Veterans Administration Hospital (now known as Banner-University Medical Center).
In 2004, a proposal was approved by Arizona’s Board of Regents to restructure UA’s health sciences colleges into two separate entities: one based out of Tucson and another centered around Phoenix. The Tucson-based school became known as UA College Of Medicine – Tucson
