The University of Amsterdam Medical School is a highly competitive institution and has stringent entry requirements for its undergraduate programme. Applicants must have completed their secondary education with at least six years of secondary schooling (12 years in total), including English, and must have achieved a minimum score of 80% in their International Baccalaureate Diploma or 180/200 in their final year of study for the Matura (the Austrian equivalent) or Abitur.
Applicants who do not meet these requirements may be admitted to the premedical course at university, which comprises a specially designed programme aimed at preparing students for medical school entrance exams.
Students who have studied medicine abroad are not eligible to apply to the University of Amsterdam Medical School as they will not have completed their secondary education in Austria or Germany.
University Of Amsterdam Medical School Entry Requirements
If you are considering studying medicine at the University of Amsterdam, you need to be aware of the entry requirements that apply to you.
The following is a guide to these requirements:
- You must have successfully completed your secondary school education in order to be admitted onto a medical programme at the University of Amsterdam.
- If you have not yet completed your secondary school education, but have already received an offer from another university, it is possible for you to transfer your place onto a medical programme at UvA. However, this will only happen if there are places available on our pre-med programme. You must apply for admission by the specified deadline and provide us with official documentation showing that you have passed all required examinations with no grade lower than 5 (on a scale 1-9).
- For non-Dutch students who wish to study medicine at UvA, there are additional requirements:
o You must have studied Dutch language for three years (at least two years at high school level). You will also need to demonstrate proficiency in Dutch by taking a test developed by our university or one that has been approved by us in advance;
