The University of California Los Angeles School of Theater, Film and Television (TFT) is a highly selective public research university located in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, United States. It offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of disciplines including theater arts, film and television production, documentary filmmaking, animation, digital media, entertainment law and business.
The school was founded as the Theater Arts Department at UCLA in 1925, under the leadership of its first chairperson, Alice Elizabeth Dickerson. The department became known as the Theatre Department in 1932 and renamed itself again to the College of Fine Arts in 1952. The department was disbanded and its programs were reorganized into an independent unit known as the School of Theater within the College of Fine Arts in 1993. In 1999, it changed its name to the School of Theater Film & Television (TFT).
