Summer Enrichment Program (SEP)

An intensive, five-week program to help disadvantaged students enhance their preparation for veterinary school. Course work, admissions workshops, case presentations and hands-on veterinary experience in the teaching hospital. NOTE: Due to the pandemic, the summer 2021 program will be a four-week virtual program that does not provide any hands-on veterinary experience.
Age: Current or post-undergraduate students
Eligibility: 18 years or older; low-income or historically underrepresented backgrounds
Date(s) held: The four-week virtual program will be held between June 28-July 23.
Application: Opens January 19, 2021, closes March 31.

Summer Math & Science Honors Academy (SMASH)

Veterinary educational sessions are offered as part of this 5-week residential program for high-achieving, underrepresented minority high school students.
Age: Grades 9-11
Eligibility: Current 9th grade students from low-income or historically underrepresented backgrounds, or students who will be the first in their family to attend college. Applicants must be from the greater Sacramento Region.
Date(s) held: Five weeks in July & August
Note: This program is being conducted virtually this summer

California State Summer School for Mathematics & Science (COSMOS)

A four-week summer residential program for high achieving high school math and science students. Veterinary faculty teach a biomedical sciences course focused on several aspects of science and medicine with hands-on experiences. Participants also visit the veterinary hospital, anatomy laboratory, Sacramento Zoo, UC Davis Medical Center and other sites. Note: This program requires tuition.
Age: Grade 9-11
Eligibility: High achievement within the STEM field

Horse Rescue Demonstration

Veterinary Medicine Exploration Academy (VMEA)

A three-day academy held on Saturdays in partnership with UC Davis Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP). VMEA provides underrepresented high school students with a first-hand look at the fields of study that make up veterinary medical education through a variety of lectures, labs, activities, and tours.
Age: Grades 9-12
Eligibility: Current EAOP or ETS students in the greater Sacramento Region. Limited spaces for non-EAOP/ETS students may available depending enrollment numbers.

Equine Presentation

High School Pre-Health Symposium

Presented by Health Professions Advising and held in April, the symposium will host up to 600 attendees. Students have the chance to explore and learn about the many health professions and how to begin preparing in high school. Attendees will meet various health professionals, pre-health advisors, pre-health students and have the opportunity to network with other students of similar interests. 
Age: Grade 9-12
Eligibility: Current high school students, faculty, advisors, or counselors. Prior registration (online) and registration fee are required.

Vets of the Future

This one-day event is for students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade to find out what being a veterinarian is all about! Students will learn how to interpret radiographs, learn about animal behavior and training, learn basic surgery knots, and get their questions answered by veterinary students, and more.
Age: Grade 6-8
Eligibility: Prior registration (online) is required.
Date(s) held: Annually in fall semester

Vet Med Youth Camp

Through a partnership with Campus Recreation Youth Programs, we created this camp for those with a passion for animals. This week-long camp is for students entering fourth and fifth grade. Students will learn about veterinary medicine through hands-on activities, facility tours, and much more!
Age: Grade 4-5
Eligibility: Prior registration (online) and registration fee are required. Age requirement (students entering 4th or 5th grade) is strictly enforced.
