What are the Best Colleges and Universities in New Hampshire?
Best Colleges in New Hampshire Badge
New Hampshire students can earn their degree from one of the state’s twenty-eight colleges and universities, which are pretty equally split between public institutions and private schools. Determining which of these are the best in the state required extensive data mining, especially in the areas of reputation, cost, retention, and post-graduation statistics. So first we examined the national and global reputations of each school and then retention rates of its students, which reflect on their personal experience and satisfaction with the school. From there we included stats on how many graduates found work after earning the degree, how much they made, and how much the degree cost. What we finally arrived at was a list defining New Hampshire’s best colleges and universities. Our figures and information come from the university and colleges’ websites, PayScale, the New Hampshire Department of Education, and nationally recognized U.S. News & World Report and The National Center for Education Statistics.

1 Best Colleges in New Hampshire

Junior: It is hard to imagine a better college than Dartmouth. The mix of academics, clubs and outdoor activities, and social scene is (in my opinion) unparalleled. Everyone is academically driven, and I feel like I can have an intellectual conversation with anyone on campus. There is a sport, club, or outdoor activity for everyone at the college, as most people I know are heavily involved in at least 2 extracurricular clubs. Lastly, the social scene is fun and inclusive. There are different frats and sororities for different all types of preferences, and every house has an “open door” policy. There is little to no social hierarchy that I’ve noticed (Football players aren’t treated differently from comp sci geeks), making it so that anyone can be friends with anyone.

One additional note: sophomore summer is the best term of all time! Look it up.

2 Best Colleges in New Hampshire

Sophomore: I love this school! I am so happy I chose to go to college here! It has a perfect balance of education, fun, and opportunity. I personally am in the Paul Business School and love it! I am learning real life things, having fun, and maintaining good grades while also being challenged in my classes. The football, soccer, and hockey games are personally my favorite sports to attend as the school spirit is so high! Food and housing here is also very good. There are so many options for every mood you are feeling; healthy and motivated but also loving comfort food. The dorms are very well sized, bigger than most other colleges I have seen. UNH has also done an outstanding job dealing with COVID-19 for the past year. In fall 2020 we were able to have a successful semester with students on campus due to their testing program they bought in such a short amount of time. I am hoping the Spring is just as successful if not better! Overall I love UNH and you should definitely consider applying!

Sophomore: Academics, professors, diversity, safety: Awesome
What suffers at UNH Manchester is the lack of social life. It is unlike many universities, in that there is no social life! There is no athletics teams, no parties, so not much meeting new people. You WILL meet new people, but it’s much more difficult to do at this college. The only thing that will make this college better is a solid social life paired with some college sports teams

4 Best Colleges in New Hampshire

Alum: As soon as I first set foot on the Saint Anselm College campus in late 2015, I knew it was the perfect school for me. During my four years there, I got to know so many fantastic people, both fellow students and faculty, that have shaped my life and led me down life and career paths I couldn’t even have imagined. I had the absolute best time here, and I strongly encourage anyone looking for a close-knit college community with tons of opportunities to take on leadership roles and get to know everyone on campus to apply here!

5 Best Colleges in New Hampshire

Alum: I enjoyed attending this university. I was especially pleased that none of my previously earned credits had “expired” according to SNHU and were all transferred and utilized toward the degree that I was working on completing. This was an amazing contributing factor to keeping my degree costs down as much as possible. Another thing that I appreciated was the 10% discount for Phi Theta Kappa members, which I just happened to be! Since I was paying for my classes out of pocket, receiving no financial aid or tuition reimbursement, and avoiding taking out any student loans, the 10% discount saved me a significant amount of money.
What I wasn’t a fan of, personally, was the policy that students had to essentially prove their academic abilities before they were allowed to take 3 classes per term. As someone who was trying to finish my degree as soon as possible, this did not appeal to me because it threw a wrench into my plan.

Highly recommend.

Rivier University
4 Year Nashua, NH
Rating 3.64 out of 5 462 reviews
Sophomore: My dealings with Rivier have been generally good. I take online courses in the Public Health program. The University and their staff have been very professional and responsive. The professors are very knowledgeable and really seem to want to help you succeed. The Tech department is very helpful, which is very important when you are taking online courses. The only thing I would change is that they don’t do any type of deferral for students on tuition reimbursement from their place of employment. So if this is your case, you will have to pay in full up front and then get reimbursed afterwards, while some schools will defer and let you pay after you get the reimbursement from your employer (which is of course, much easier). But other than that I have no complaints!

My experience at Colby-Sawyer has been great. The professors are very accommodating and there are a multitude of resources for all students. There is no better college for someone who is looking to make a lot of new close friends. As someone who was weary about leaving home, Colby-Sawyer has provided me with a home away from home. Franklin Pierce University
4 Year Rindge, NH
Rating 3.27 out of 5 535 reviews
Junior: The best part about FPU, for sure, is the community. Everyone on campus is welcoming, loving, and personable. The support and positivity that run through campus are unmatchable. Another great aspect is the classroom. The class sizes are reasonably small which allows students to create a professional relationship with their professors. All the professors care about the well-being of their students and are deeply invested in quality education. Campus food might not be the selling point, but the people who make and serve it definitely are! Many of our staff also create bonds with students, such as the dining hall staff. Some of them even go as far as joining sports events to cheer on students or catch lunch with them at our local diner. Dorming is better than the food but not as good as some state schools I’ve seen. Although each year you advance, your housing is improved. Therefore, senior year housing is definitely the best on campus. In the end, I’ll definitely be sad when I leave.

One of the great things about this college is that I can complete my degree completely online; this is very helpful, especially since I’m having to care for a family member with special needs. The classes have great professors that make the classes interesting and provide intellectually engaging content. I’ve been at this college for a while now and I actually intent to get my graduate degree with this college once my bachelor’s is complete.

Junior: The New Hampshire Institute of Art was absorbed by NEC the year I transferred, so I was one of the last students to receive a laptop included in my tuition without raising the cost. I appreciated NHIA for the “real world application” perspective of their courses, and it’s nice being able to get a non-art-related minor at NEC, but I feel as though the bottom-line is more about profit than student success. They’ll accept students of any ability, won’t challenge them for 4 years, then happily charge them almost $20,000 in tuition without a guarantee. I am disappointed in the drop in standards and the lack of resources.
