TTUHSC School of Pharmacy is one of the top three schools in Texas for most economical per-credit-hour cost. In fact, the costs for complete tuition at the School come in below one year’s average mean wage for pharmacists in the state of Texas. And Texas is a great place to seek a pharmacist position. The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows pharmacists hold 1.87 of every 1,000 jobs in the state, making an average of $57.15 per hour in 2014.
Tuition and fees are established each year by the Board of Regents, and in addition to tuition, students are responsible for their books, supplies, travel and personal expenses associated with completing their clinical experiences. A laptop computer, compatible with the School’s system is also required.
A $100 non-refundable fee must be submitted with the application for admission. Applications will not be processed without this fee. (You do not have to apply to Texas Tech University in addition to applying to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy.)

Scholarships and Financial Aid
Approximately 65 percent of our students receive one or more scholarships, and in the last five years, the School has averaged about 73 competitive scholarships per year on average and 391 non-competitive scholarships. The awards range from hundreds to several thousand dollars totaling more than $970,000.
The School of Pharmacy offers a variety of scholarships to our students. Our generous alumni, corporate partners and donors have endowed millions of dollars in funding to perpetuate a variety of scholarships paid on the interest accumulated from those funds. Additionally, there are numerous scholarship programs managed outside the School that benefit out students, as well. The School of Pharmacy is grateful for scholarship donations from numerous pharmacy chains, the Amarillo Area Foundation, the Harrington Trust, and regional pharmacy associations, as well as individual memorial scholarships established throughout the years.
The State of Texas and the United States government also provide funding for students with financial need, and several Texas counties have provided scholarships for students from their areas or who plan to practice pharmacy in those areas after graduation.
In order to be considered for scholarships, students must have a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 or better; be in satisfactory academic progression; and be in good standing with the institution. Each scholarship has its own criteria that can include: GPA, year in school, hometown, career interest area, leadership abilities, financial need, and status as a first-generation student.
In the 2015-16 academic year, TTU System Chancellor Tedd Mitchell provided additional scholarship funds for new pharmacy school candidates with exceptional scores on the PCAT and impressive GPAs, offering these students as much as $4,000 per year as they continue their education with the School of Pharmacy.
In addition to scholarships, TTUHSC also facilitates financial assistance in the form of loans for students with need. And an estimated 85 percent of our student body receives some sort of assistance in the form of scholarships, financial aid, or both. The average assistance each student receives is approximately $30,000 per year.
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center believes the primary responsibility for financing education lies first with the student and his/her family. When the total resources they can provide do not meet expenses, it is the objective of the financial aid program at TTUHSC to provide financial assistance to students who, without such assistance, would not be able to pursue advanced education.
Financial Aid at TTUHSC comes from many sources. Although qualifications for each funding program might differ, no student shall be excluded from participating in or be denied the benefits of any financial aid program on the basis of age, sex, race, color, religion, national origin, or disability.

Upon the successful completion of our program, TTUHSC School of Pharmacy will award individuals the Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm. D.), leading to sought-after opportunities and a promising career in pharmaceutical sciences. Successful candidates to the school must complete the prerequisites listed below in addition to meeting our minimum GPA and PCAT requirements. Please note: You do not have to complete the prerequisites prior to applying for admission. However, you must complete the required prerequisites by May 31, 2022.

Pre-Pharmacy Grade Point Average (PPGPA)
- Our preferred minimum pre-pharmacy grade point average (PPGPA) required for application consideration is 3.000.
- Grades below “C” are not accepted.
- if you received a grade of “C” the first time you completed organic chemistry, then repeated the course with a grade of “A”, we disregard the “C” and calculate PPGPA using the “A”. This process allows students to demonstrate competency in a course.
- When evaluating a candidate, we use the composite PCAT percentage score, their overall GPA, and their pre-pharmacy GPA.
Your “overall” grade point average is calculated using the following formula:
Sum of the Grade Points / Total #SCH (semester credit hours).
Your Pre-Pharmacy grade point average is calculated with the last grade earned* for each course taken, multiplied by the number of semester credit hours (SCH), using the following scale:
A = 4.0 x #SCH = Grade Points
