When it comes down to it, law school rankings don’t matter if students are failing the bar exam! In this post I want to go through the Texas Southern University Law School Admission’s statistics and shed some light on how many people got in with a certain GPA or LSAT.

Thank you for your interest in Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University. TMSL seeks students from diverse backgrounds with the potential to succeed in law school and become active members of the legal community. The admission decision is based primarily upon the applicant’s motivation and intellectual capacity as demonstrated by the undergraduate record and on his or her aptitude for the study of law as measured by the LSAT. The admission decision, however, is more complex than the mere rank ordering of applicants on the basis of a numerical formula. Leadership ability, prior community service, work experience, the student’s background, extra-curricular activities, and graduate study in another discipline are all considered. The Admissions Committee also seeks to determine the applicant’s level of motivation by reviewing personal experience indicating determination, patience and perseverance. The Committee believes that past success in overcoming an economic and/or educational disadvantage is a prime indicator of motivation.

TSU Board Approves Temporary Revision to Admissions Standards Due to COVID-19
On October 15, 2020, the TSU Board of Regents approved a temporary update to the university’s admission policy to allow first-time freshman applicants with a minimum 2.75 GPA to be automatically admitted by waiving the SAT or ACT score requirement. This updated policy is in addition to the Board-approved policy on June 1, 2020 which allows first-time freshman applicants with a minimum 3.0 GPA and ranked in the top 25% of their high school class to be automatically admitted without an SAT or ACT score. These temporary polices were approved in response to the limited testing options due to COVID-19. The updated policies were approved only for the 2020-21 academic year.
Additionally, these students will not need to present ACT or SAT scores as part of the admissions process. Even though ACT/SAT scores have been waived, students must still take the TSI exam for placement. More information on the TSI can be found on the TSU Testing Center webpage.
