Students of Federal Polytechnic Ilaro can now look forward to more art courses as the school’s academic calendar for the 2020/2021 academic year was released on Monday.
The Polytechnic has announced that they will be offering courses in music, theatre arts, and visual arts. The courses are aimed at helping students develop their skills in the various disciplines of art.
Speaking during the release of the calendar, the school’s deputy vice chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Ajayi said: “We have a growing population of creative people who need to be nurtured and groomed for future employment opportunities.”
“With this in mind, we are offering these new courses to give our students an opportunity to explore their talents.”

Federal Polytechnic Ilaro has been offering art courses since its inception. The first course offered was Visual Arts, but in the last few years, the institution has also added courses in Performing Arts and Music.
In the visual arts department, there are courses like Painting, Digital Photography and Interior Designing. The school also offers a Pre-Degree Programme in Visual Arts for those who want to go on to study Visual Arts at university level.
In the performing arts department, there are courses like Theatre Studies and Music Technology. This is one area of the school that has seen tremendous growth in recent years and this is evidenced by the fact that it recently established a Centre for Performing Arts Research (CPAR) which is co-funded by UNESCO.

Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State is a tertiary institution located in Ilaro, Ogun State. It was established as Federal College of Agriculture, Ilaro in 1972. The school was upgraded to federal Polytechnic status in 1989 and has been known by its current name since 2007.
The school offers various courses and programs under the faculties of Agriculture, Engineering and Technology, Health Sciences and Social Sciences. The school has three campuses at Iru, Ijebu Igbo and Ago Iwoye.
