What is the Stony Brook 7 Year Medical Program?
The Stony Brook University School of Medicine is a private medical school located in Long Island, New York. It was founded in 1957. The school has been named as one of U.S. News & World Report’s “Top Schools for Primary Care” since 2007 and is ranked among America’s Best Graduate Schools by U.S. News & World Report since 2010.
The school offers a seven-year Doctor of Medicine program that includes three years of basic science training, followed by four years of clinical training at the university hospital and affiliated hospitals throughout New York State. The first two years are spent on campus at Stony Brook University School of Medicine’s North Shore Long Island Jewish Medical Center campus in Manhasset, New York where students can complete their preclinical studies before spending their third year at another site in the United States or abroad. In addition to completing their clinical training at many different sites across New York State, students will also spend time rotating through various specialties including internal medicine, family medicine and pediatrics while they learn how to diagnose and treat patients under supervision from top-notch faculty members

The Stony Brook 7-Year Medical Program is designed to provide exceptional opportunities to students who are interested in pursuing a career as a physician after completing their undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University (SBU). As an SBU student, you will earn both your bachelor’s degree and MD degree within seven years of enrollment at SBU; this program is not intended for individuals who already have an undergraduate degree or prior graduate education.
The 7-Year Medical Program has four phases:
Phase I — Undergraduate Years 1-3: Students complete their Bachelor of Science degree requirements through coursework at SBU, while simultaneously fulfilling requirements for the MD degree such as taking pre-medical courses and completing the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).
Phase II — Undergraduate Years 4-6: Students complete their Bachelor of Arts (BA) requirements through coursework
