The Stanford Design Impact (SDI) program is a highly selective course that teaches students the principles and practices of social entrepreneurship. The program’s mission is to provide students with the skills and experience necessary to design products that make the world a better place for all people, especially those in developing countries.
The SDI curriculum consists of two semesters of coursework, as well as an intensive summer immersion trip to South America or Southeast Asia. Students are taught how to identify local problems and create sustainable solutions that are tailored to their communities’ needs. They also learn how to develop their ideas into viable business plans through careful market research, financial analysis, branding strategy, and more.
Throughout the year, SDI students run their own social enterprises by raising money from investors, applying for grants, pitching their ideas at competitions, and even starting companies.
Stanford Design Impact has a very high acceptance rate. In fact, we receive hundreds of applications each year and accept only about a third of them.
