The modules you have previously studied must match the content and learning outcomes of the modules on the degree you are interested in studying at St Mary’s. You can check the relevant undergraduate degree webpage for module information. 

It is unlikely that we will be able to offer you a transfer if you have been asked to leave your previous institution due to academic failure, academic misconduct or non-academic misconduct, unless you can provide official evidence of mitigating circumstances.

Applying for year two (level five)

If you wish to apply for direct entry to year two (level five) you must have achieved at least 120 UK credits at level four at another institution.

Applying for year three (level six)

If you wish to apply for direct entry to year three (level six) you must have achieved at least 120 UK credits at level four and 120 UK credits at level five at another institution.

Scholarships and Financial Aid:The transfer scholarship program was designed to recognize the achievements of our transfer applicants. Students are considered for an academic transfer scholarship award based on the Undergraduate Admission and Scholarship Application. All qualified transfer applicants will be considered for an award. Students must be admitted to St. Mary’s before an official award may be offered.

Prospective Transfer Student Checklist

If you have less than 30 transferable hours and/or less than 3 hours of English composition, you will also need to send:

  • Your official high school transcript (showing your graduation date)
  • Your SAT or ACT results

Our SAT code is 6637; the ACT code is 4158. We encourage you to submit all SAT and/or ACT results; we’ll use your best subscores across all test dates.

Since we run on a rolling admission platform, we accept applications until a few weeks before the academic term begins each semester. Apply by June 1 for priority consideration for admission and transfer scholarship opportunities if you intend to enroll for the fall semester. And review important dates for the application and enrollment process to ensure you optimize your opportunities for admission and scholarships.

Transfer Credits

The Office of Admission works in conjunction with the Registrar’s office to make sure you know which credits will transfer and how they will support your degree plan at St. Mary’s University. Transcript articulations are completed after the student is accepted to St. Mary’s University and can be reviewed by accepted students in Gateway, the portal for St. Mary’s University.

To obtain a first baccalaureate degree or a diploma, you must successfully complete a minimum of 50% of the credit hours required for your degree, diploma or certificate program at Saint Mary’s. Among these credit hours, students must complete a minimum of 50% of the credit hours required for the major, honours or concentration at Saint Mary’s. Note that the equivalency of courses conducted at other institutions is at the discretion of the Dean of the Faculty.

Admissions Procedures

Admission requirements vary by academic program:

Bachelor of Arts: an equivalent of Grade 12 English

Bachelor of Commerce: an equivalent of Grade 12 English, an equivalent of Grade 12 Mathematics.

Bachelor of Science: the equivalent of Grade 12 English, the equivalent of Grade 12 Pre-Calculus, and two Grade 12 academic Science subjects.

Note: If you have an overall average of C but lack specific courses for Commerce or Science you can be admitted to the Bachelor of Arts. Later, if you have taken the opportunity to take courses to make up those requirements, you may be eligible to transfer to your first-choice program.

You will also be required to provide your university or college transcripts.

To apply:

  • Submit an application online .
  • Arrange to have official copies of all university or college transcripts sent directly to our Admissions Office from each school.
  • Request that your high school sends us an official copy of your last transcript.
  • Include the $40 application fee.
  • Results of an English language proficiency test (if English is not your first language). This result must be sent to Saint Mary’s directly from the testing centre where it was administered.

Note: If you are required to withdraw from another institution you will not be considered for admission at Saint Mary’s University for 12 months following the date of dismissal. Admission will not be automatic and you will be placed on probation.
