The Singapore Medical License Exam is a multiple-choice exam that tests the candidate’s knowledge of medicine, surgery and obstetrics. It is held annually in Singapore, usually at the end of January or early February. The exam consists of two papers: Paper 1 (Consisting of four modules) and Paper 2 (consisting of three modules).
Paper 1 Module 1: General Medicine and Surgery
This module covers the basics of general medicine and surgery, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and pathology. Candidates will also be tested on their knowledge of microbiology, immunology and pharmacology.
Paper 1 Module 2: Obstetrics and Gynaecology
The second paper tests the candidate’s knowledge of paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology. Topics include neonatology, paediatric emergencies and diseases in children as well as medical problems during pregnancy or labour.
