Senior engineers are often hired from within their companies, but that doesn’t mean they can’t hop between jobs if the opportunity arises.
A senior engineer salary varies depending on which company you work for—and even where in the company you’re located. But generally speaking, we’ve found that most senior engineers make between $100k and $200k per year. If you’re working at an established company like Microsoft or Amazon, then you’re likely going to be earning closer to the higher end of that range—but if you’re working at a newer startup, then it might be closer to the lower end of that scale.

The manufacturing heartland of the West Midlands and East Anglia again employs the largest number of engineers, with a quarter of respondents based in the region. This is once again followed by London and the South East, where 21.8 per cent of respondents are based.
As in previous years, over 90 per cent of respondents are male, and just under 90 per cent are white, while over 80 per cent expect to remain in the profession for at least the next five years.
