Medgar Evers College is a public, co-educational, liberal arts college located in Brooklyn, New York. It was founded in 1970 as the City University of New York’s only black college. The college offers more than 90 majors and minors, and the student-faculty ratio is 12:1. Medgar Evers College offers a variety of degree programs including Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Science (MS).

Medgar Evers College offers several special programs such as its Honors Program, which allows students to explore their interests through research opportunities, internships and study abroad experiences; its Phi Theta Kappa chapter; and its Center for Community Partnerships that provides educational opportunities for underserved youth in Brooklyn through partnerships with community groups like the Boys & Girls Club of America or local hospitals like Kings County Hospital Center or Coney Island Hospital.
Black colleges in New York are an important part of the state’s higher education system. New York has many historically black colleges, including Medgar Evers College, a four-year public college and a member of the City University of New York system; and State University of New York at Albany’s Albany College for Women, which was founded as the Albany Female Academy in 1871.
