Practical Nursing

Pontotoc Technology Center Lpn Program

The Practical Nurse program offers full-time classes and clinical experience in preparation for a skilled career. Graduates of the program are eligible to obtain Practical Nurse licensure after successfully completing the National Council of Licensure Exam for Practical Nurses. Practical nurses work under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician in a variety of health related areas. The program is approximately 11 months long with a total of 1463 hours.

Instructor Profile: Beckie Balch

In her 30+ years as a nurse, Beckie Balch, RN, MSN-Ed., has enjoyed a broad range of experiences in patient care. Starting out in the hospital setting as a labor and delivery nurse, she knew she’d found her passion and continued to pursue it.  From supporting and caring for soon to be mothers at a 33-bed labor and recovery facility boasting 300+ deliveries a month to counseling and triage for a 10 physician OBGYN clinic, you could say Balch has a little experience in the field.

High School Enrollment Information:

High school students living in the technology center district who attend a public, private, parochial, charter, or home school are eligible to attend tuition free. If you have questions, contact your local high school counselor or call the PTC Counselor at 580-310-2264. Partner School Districts are: Ada, Allen, Byng, Latta, Roff, Sasakwa, Stonewall, Tupelo, and Vanoss.High School Students – Full-Time Programs – APPLY ONLINE

Post-Secondary (Adult) Student Admission Information:

Full-Time Programs Post-Secondary students are admitted according to space in the programs.  Most programs are 1050 clock hours and begin in August and conclude in May of each year. Occasionally there are a few openings and admission is made at the beginning of a new quarter.

Some programs are adult only such as the Practical Nursing, Paramedic, and Fire Training Academy. These programs have separate admission procedures and length of course. For Practical Nursing information call 580-310-2260. For Paramedic and Fire Academy Training information call 580-310-2248.

Please follow the procedures outlined below to be considered for admission for all other full-time programs.

Steps for Post-Secondary Admission:

  • Complete an application for admission.
  • Schedule and take an assessment. (ACT score taken within the past 5 years of 19 or more may be submitted in lieu of taking assessment.)
  • Interview
  • Apply for Financial Aid
  • If you have completed all of the above steps and there is space in the program, you will be sent a letter telling you the date and time to report to class.

Short-Term Classes

Short-Term programs offer training for those seeking a new career, or who want to enhance existing skills in a minimal amount of time. Courses are offered part-time during the day, evening, and weekends.
