Throughout Ohio, there are many opportunities for adults seeking meaningful, dependable work – especially for people who enjoy working with their hands. For them, the first step towards getting on a successful career path is to secure the right training in a field they’re excited about.

In Middleburg Heights, OH, Polaris Career Center regularly trains students in its Welding program to join just such a field. By teaching the four main types of welding, including MIG, stick, TIG, and flux core welding, Polaris Career Center helps students attain the certification they need to become a part of a growing welding workforce in Cleveland and other major cities.

“A lot of manufacturers in Cleveland actually wait until our students graduate to start hiring,” Johnny Napier, Welding Instructor at Polaris Career Center, says. “We work hard to make sure that each member of our program leaves it as a qualified professional. Local businesses have come to expect that from us, and it directly benefits our graduates as they navigate the job market.”

welding school curriculum

A Comprehensive Curriculum

Just like the popular saying goes, the Welding program at Polaris Career Center always puts safety first. Before students start using any welding equipment, instructors first provide a thorough outline of welding safety.

“When it comes to safety, welders have to know what they can and cannot do. Without that basic knowledge, the rest is meaningless,” says Napier.

After laying a strong foundation in welding safety, Welding Instructors like Napier and Julio Martinez then begin to teach their students proper welding techniques, different aspects of fabrication, properties of various metal types, and more. Typically, each class is divided into two sections: 45 minutes of welding theory and several hours of hands-on training in Polaris Career Center’s state-of-the-art shop.

“Our brand new shop has 25 Lincoln Electric multi-process machines,” Martinez explains. “Each machine offers full-time functionality and does the same thing, so every student can work independently at their own booth – no sharing needed. In other words, all of our students can experience hands-on learning at their own pace.”

The Polaris Difference

Aside from its leading-edge welding facility and equipment, the Welding program also boasts a highly experienced team of instructors. For instance, with Martinez’s and Napier’s combined experience alone clocking in at 60 years, students can feel confident that they’ll learn critical trade secrets throughout the academic year.

“Another great thing about Polaris Career Center is our job placement,” Martinez points out. “Not many other schools can say that they help their graduates find a position in the workforce after graduation like we do.”

Another defining characteristic of the Polaris Welding program is student capacity. Under normal conditions, the program can accommodate up to 25 students at once. Thanks to the fully loaded welding center, all 25 receive the same high quality of education – a feat that few other schools can match.

What’s more, the Welding program also operates on a convenient evening schedule. As Napier explains, this is ideal for students who work during the day to provide for themselves and their families.

“Our class times are nice because they don’t go so late that our students are exhausted when they wake up in the morning,” says Napier. “So whether they work part-time or have a family to care for, our evening classes allow them to maintain their lifestyle while furthering their education at the same time.”

College Credit – Polaris Career Center is a member of the University System of Ohio which is governed by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. Polaris Career Center Job & Career Training programs offer the opportunity to earn college credit through the Ohio Department of Higher Education and are listed individually stating the amount of potential college credit earned through either the One Year Option or CT2 programs. It is important to note that college credit is granted by the institution the student plans on attending. Polaris Career Center does not grant any college credit and each program has specific requirements a student is required to meet to be eligible to earn college credit. Feel free to contact the Adult Education Office if you have questions regarding pathways toward earning college credit through a Polaris Job & Career Training Program.
