SHP Leading Design worked with the Pioneer Career & Technology Center on a complex, phased renovation and addition project. Two separate, 40 year-old buildings were renovated into state of the art, hands-on learning environments to prepare students for future careers as well career advancement in several fields including health sciences. The addition to the existing facilities results in a new 236,000 square foot career and technology center.

Year Completed
2011

Project Features
Extensive reprogramming of the existing space and integration with the new 16,000 sf addition allows the center to better utilize the existing buildings to meet workforce development needs in several fields, from early childhood, to health sciences, to construction.
In addition to academic classroom and science labs, the project includes the design of low and high bay spaces specific to needs of 23 different programs. For example, while many programs separate classroom and lab space, Diesel Tech and Auto Collision integrated those spaces.
The dated exterior was re-skinned with contemporary materials to create a technically sophisticated exterior image that carries through into the cutting-edge educational environment. New insulation creates a more energy efficient building while meeting LEED requirements.
The five-phased project required careful planning and implementation, including coordinating swing space, to enable the building to stay operational during construction.
