Mass Communication is a discipline that studies how communication influences the society, culture and economy. The study of mass communication is a combination of sociology, psychology, political science, law and history.
The main purpose of studying Mass Communication is to understand the role media plays in the society. Mass media can be defined as any means through which information is transmitted to large numbers of people simultaneously. It includes print media, television and radio broadcasting, films and video recordings etc.
The term ‘mass’ means large number of people or audience who receive the same message at a time. The term “communication” means transmitting messages from one person to another or from one place to another place by using any medium (words, sound, images etc.).
