Patent Agent Entry Level Jobs
If you’re looking for a job as a patent agent, there are many different entry-level positions that can help you get started on your career path. The first step is to identify the type of patent agent you want to be; there are several different types of patent agents:
Inventor’s Agent – this type of patent agent will work with a client who has an invention idea and wants to get it patented. They help clients through the entire process of getting a patent, including finding an inventor if necessary, writing up the patent application and filing it with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Inventor’s agents often specialize in specific fields such as electronics or software engineering.
Patent Paralegal – these professionals work under the supervision of attorneys in law firms or corporations who specialize in intellectual property law. They perform research, draft documents and manage cases for clients who have filed patents or trademark applications with USPTO. A paralegal may also take depositions from witnesses who provide testimony relevant to a case at hand.
