The Paramedic to Registered Nurse (RN) Bridge Program is a unique program that allows paramedics to apply their clinical knowledge, skills and experience towards becoming a registered nurse.
The goal of this program is to provide the student with an opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for successful completion of the Registered Nurse NCLEX-RN examination.
Paramedic to RN Bridge Program Virginia
The paramedic to registered nurse (PN to RN) bridge program has been developed as a way for paramedics who are currently licensed in the state of Virginia to become registered nurses. The purpose of this program is to address the shortage of nurses in the state and throughout the country.
Paramedics are a critical link in the health care safety net and are often the first to arrive on scene of an emergency. The paramedic to RN Bridge program prepares you for your new career as a registered nurse as you complete coursework and clinical hours.
The Paramedic to RN Bridge program is offered at our Culpeper, VA campus and requires a minimum of 80 semester hours of credit to complete. This program is designed for individuals who have an associate degree in nursing or equivalent, with a current Virginia Department of Health Professions registration as a licensed practical nurse (LPN).
The paramedic to registered nurse (PN-RN) bridge program is offered by Virginia Commonweath University through its Center for Health Professions Education. It has been approved by the State Board of Nursing and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
Paramedics who want to become a Registered Nurse must meet all the requirements set forth by both organizations. These requirements include:
Possess a current license as a Paramedic in Virginia.
Have no felony convictions or convictions involving moral turpitude.
Pass an examination that tests their knowledge in nursing skills, legal issues, pharmacology and medical terminology/vocabulary.
