The dental hygiene program at Oxford College is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to function as a competent general dental hygienist. A student graduating from the program should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of oral anatomy and physiology, diseases and disorders of the teeth, jaws, gingiva and periodontium; oral pathology; preventive dentistry; basic clinical procedures; bacteriology; nutrition; pharmacology; radiography; anesthesia principles and practice; non-surgical periodontal therapy including scaling and root planing, periodontal maintenance therapy for nonsurgical patients including home care instructions and patient management; restorative procedures including composite resin bonding and application of restorative materials such as amalgam, porcelain fused to metal crowns (PFM), direct composite restorations, indirect composite restorations (composite fillings) and crowns on natural teeth for the treatment of caries lesions or other defects in occlusal surfaces or incisal edges where retention is achieved by means other than those described above.
Oxford College Dental Hygiene Admission Requirements
The application process for the Oxford College Dental Hygiene program is competitive and selective. Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Complete an application for admission by the appropriate deadline (see below).
Submit official transcripts from all colleges attended.
Earn a grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent (2,400 minimum SAT or 560 minimum ACT).
Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in science courses completed at an accredited college or university as well as any prerequisite coursework for dental hygiene programs at Oxford College Dental Hygiene, unless you have already completed a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or above and all prerequisites for admission to the dental hygiene program at Oxford College Dental Hygiene have been successfully completed.
Demonstrate leadership experience through extracurricular activities and community service within the last two years that demonstrate commitment to diversity, cultural awareness, health promotion and wellness education, promotion of oral health care, and oral health education in underserved populations.
