OKP Scholarship Application 2021

Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) promotes capacity building within organisations in 51 countries by providing training and education scholarships through fellowships for professionals. OKP has replaced the NFP and is initiated and fully funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the budget for development cooperation.

You must meet a number of criteria that support the aim of the Orange Knowledge to be eligible for a scholarship. 

  • You must be a professional and national of, and working and living in one of the countries on the OKP country list. The list can be found on the website.  
  • You must not be employed by an organisation which can be expected to have their own funds for staff development. Organisations that are considered to have their own means for staff development are for example: multinational corporations (e.g. Shell, Unilever, Microsoft), large national and/or a large commercial organisations, bilateral donor organisations (e.g. USAID, DFID, Danida, Sida, Dutch ministry of Foreign affairs, FinAid, AusAid, ADC, SwissAid), multilateral donor organisations, (e.g. a UN organisation, the World Bank, the IMF, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank, IADB), international NGOs (e.g. Oxfam, Plan, Care);
  • You must have a current employer’s statement that complies with the format Nuffic has provided. All information must be provided and all commitments that are included in the format must be endorsed in the statement;
  • You must have a government statement that meets the requirements of the country in which the employer is established (if applicable);
  • You must have an official passport valid at least three months after the submission date of the registration form by the candidate;
  • You must not be nominated for more than one OKP scholarship for courses that take place at the same time.

Step 1: If you want to apply for an OKP scholarship for a short course programme in the Netherlands, you need to first find a course that is eligible for the scholarship. Step 2: Before you apply, make sure you review the eligibility criteria above carefully and check whether your employer is willing to nominate you for the scholarship. When you are certain that you are eligible for an OKP scholarship, you can start making the necessary preparations for your application.

Step 4: Apply by submitting your OKP application. For the Short Course you can register via this application form. Please be prepared to provide the following details and documents:

In the application you need to provide your personal details, indicate which short course you want to register for, and provide a motivational statement. You will also need to upload:

  • a copy of a valid passport; 
  • a statement from your employer (please use the OKP format);
  • a statement from your government (if applicable for your country, please use the OKP format). 

OKP Scholarship Amount

An OKP scholarship is intended to supplement the salary that you should continue to receive during your study period. The allowance is a contribution towards your costs of living, the costs of tuition fees, visas, travel, insurance and thesis research. If applicable, the scholarship holder is expected to cover the difference between the actual costs and the amount of the personal OKP scholarship amount. The Orange Knowledge Programme gives you the opportunity to create an international classroom where students and staff can learn from each other. It also allows you to create sustainable professional partnerships with organisations in Orange Knowledge countries.

Expenses covered

As an education institution you get a fixed reimbursement, which includes visa, travel and insurance costs, study materials and a handling fee. It also includes 95% of tuition fees for each selected student. You cover the remaining 5% of the tuition fee yourself.

The default end date for study programmes participating in the Orange Knowledge Programme is 31 August 2022. For master’s programmes that have a duration beyond 31 August 2022, expenses are covered for 1 academic year.

Institutions may offer master’s programmes that continue after this date if they:

  • declare to meet the reporting deadlines, 
  • offer a co-financed scholarship for the remaining part of the study period (in case of a master’s programme with a duration of more than 1 year).

OKP Scholarship Application 2021 Participation Criteria

  • has signed the Code of Conduct international students, or is included in the list of additional knowledge centres;
  • will deliver the course itself; intermediary organisations cannot participate;
  • has sufficient organisational and financial means;
  • declares to meet the reporting deadlines (only applicable for master’s programmes that have a duration beyond 31 August 2022);
  • can provide a proof of funding for co-financed scholarships (only applicable for master’s programmes with a duration longer than 1 academic year). 

OKP Scholarship Results 2021

The courses need to meet the following criteria:

  • The maximum duration for master’s programmes is 24 months.
  • The duration of short courses should be between 12 and 365 days.
  • The default end date for implementation of courses is 31 August 2022.
  • The course or programme should be full-time (this does not apply to e-learning courses).
  • The course or programme needs to take place either in the Netherlands or needs to be carried out by a Dutch institution in an OKP country.
  • The course or programme needs to be taught in English, French or Spanish.
  • Master’s programmes need to be accredited.

In addition, the start date of the course or programme needs to be within a specified period; this varies per grant application round:

  • Round 1 – for all masters and short courses
    Both masters and short courses should start between 26July and 21 November 2021.
  • Round 2 – for short courses
    Courses should start between 22 November 2021 and 20 February 2022.
  • Round 3 – for short courses
    Courses should start from 21 February onward and must be completed before 31 August 2022.
