What
Oakland University’s Computer Science Department is a leader in providing both the practice and tools of computer science to prepare graduates with the knowledge and skill to succeed as leaders in industry, academia, and society. Our faculty consists of instructors with a basis in computer programming as well as problem solving. These people have created a casual, yet informative course environment where students learn the basics of object-oriented programming and are given an opportunity to develop better problem solving skills.
I am a professor at Oakland University, in the computer science department. I enjoy teaching as well as research and would like to eventually retire as an emeritus professor. Currently, I teach CSCI-300: Introduction to Programming, CSCI-301: Data Structures and Algorithms, and CSCI-302: Computer Architecture and Assembly Language. School Of Engineering And Computer Science
Oakland University’s School of Engineering and Computer Science (SECS) offers instruction leading to degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels.
The programs are offered through five departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Bioengineering.
The SECS, with about 2,300 undergraduate and 743 graduate students, features an outstanding faculty dedicated to preparing learners for the 21st-century workplace and society as well as for research in their fields of specialization. The school offers close student/faculty interaction, small classes and individualized attention.
SECS Post Graduation Outcome report for the 2019-2020 class shows that 85 percent of our students completed at least one internship before graduation and 92 percent are employed in their field of study or are pursuing further education. 99 percent are employed in Michigan with the median salary of $70,000.
To address the needs of practicing computer scientists and engineers, the SECS has recently developed several opportunities for Professional and Continuing Education. These exciting new programs are perfect for those interested in developing and refining their professional skills, and provide a vital advantage in today’s competitive marketplace.
Electrical And Computer Engineering
Welcome to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department!
As teacher-scholars, our faculty are experts in their areas, actively engaged in research activities, and committed to mentoring students in educational and professional endeavors. At the undergraduate level, the ECE Department offers two ABET-accredited degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) with a major in electrical engineering and a B.S.E. with a major in computer engineering. Our undergraduate programs emphasize the importance of hands-on experience; many courses are accompanied by laboratory sessions led by faculty and graduate students.
We also offer year-round undergraduate research experiences to introduce students to playing an important role in engineering the future, presenting papers at conferences, and publishing in academic journals.
The Department offers five advanced graduate degrees: Master of Science (M.S.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering, M.S. in Embedded Systems, M.S. in Mechatronics, a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering. Graduate students also obtain hands-on experience in laboratories created in partnership with companies and government agencies. Graduate teaching and research assistantships are available.
The department has teaching and research labs for coursework, thesis work, research, and corporate use including an Automotive Antenna Range and a Scanning Electron Microscope sponsored by the National Science Foundation’s Major Research Instrumentation Program.
