In reaching for excellence NYU seeks to take academic and cultural advantage of its location in New York City and to embrace diversity among faculty staff and students to ensure the widest possible range of perspectives including international perspectives in the educational experience.

Full-time students at New York University paid $53,308 in fees and tuition in the 2019 – 2020 school year, prior to corrections for financial aid. $50,684 was the cost of tuition. $2,624 was the charge for fees. Find out more about the net price.

Alas, this college doesn’t offer any tuition discounts to in-state students.

New York University fees and tuition is the amount billed to undergrads for one year of attendance, and does not include room and board. However, many students wind up having to pay below maximum tuition because they qualify for financial aid along with other reductions.

The subsequent table shows the expenses defined above for the 2019 – 2020 academic year.

Tuition & Fees Five Year Projection

There continues to be a growth of 2.9% in New York University fees and tuition for out-of-state students in the past five years. Tuition expanded by 2.9% and fees expanded by 2.0%. This school year, undergraduates can expect to pay $54,833 if the growth keeps up.

Due to price growth, the total expense of a four-year degree from NYU would be $228,920, and the total cost of a two-year degree would be $111,233, not including added expenses for books, transportation, and room and board.

new york university tuition fees for international students

If you are an F-1 or J-1 student, you will have to pay the SEVIS fee to the US government. Currently, the SEVIS fee is $350 for F-1 students and $220 for J-1 students. When you pay the fee, be sure to print payment confirmation and keep it with your other immigration documents.

When to pay it

You are responsible for paying this fee once you get a new I-20 or DS-2019 from us and at least 3 business days before you apply for your F-1 or J-1 visa. If you’re Canadian, you’ll have to pay the fee at least three business days prior to entering the US as an F-1 or J-1 student.

Who doesn’t have to pay it

You won’t have to pay the fee

  • if you transferred your SEVIS record from another university.
  • if you need to apply for a new visa later on in your studies. You only need to pay the fee again if you are issued a brand new SEVIS record and your SEVIS ID number is different.
  • if you are sponsored by Fulbright or another similar program. Be sure to check with the organization issuing your DS-2019 to confirm if you have the fee waived.
  • if you are an F-2 or J-2 dependent.

NYU International Student Fee

What it is

If you are an international student at NYU, you will have to pay $90 for each semester or term you register for class. An international student at NYU is anyone who is not a US citizen or Permanent Resident. This fee is part of the cost of attending NYU.

When to pay it

You are automatically charged for it each term you register. You will see it on your NYU bill and can pay it when you are paying your fees for the semester.

Who doesn’t have to pay it

If you change your status and become a US citizen or Permanent Resident, then contact us. We will need to see proof of your new status in the U.S. You will then no longer be responsible for paying the fee.

For any questions about this fee, please contact Thomas Sirinides, Director of International Student Services, at [email protected]

Special note for COVID-19 circumstances

The International Student Fee continues to be charged for any active international student while studying at NYU outside of the US since OGS must continuously maintain the student’s SEVIS record in order for a student to be eligible to return to NYC as an F-1 or J-1 student and for an F-1 student to be able to count their time outside the US toward benefits like CPT or OPT eligibility.
