The University of Manitoba (UM) is a public university in the province of Manitoba, Canada. Located in Winnipeg and founded in 1877, it is the oldest university in Western Canada. The University of Manitoba has 15 faculties and over 50 research institutes and centres. The main campus covers 196 acres (79 ha) near downtown Winnipeg and includes six buildings with a combined area of 644,000 m2 (7,100,000 sq ft) and 175 academic departments organized into 19 faculties.
