The BLS reported in May 2020 that the highest-paying states for automotive service technicians and mechanics were the District of Columbia and California, with average earnings of $46,640 and $54,540, respectively. Workers in low-paying states, such as Kentucky and West Virginia, averaged $11,870-$42,840. California and Texas had the most workers by state, and average earnings were $54,540 and $47,500, respectively.
