Marcus Freeman Salary At Notre Dame
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish got a good coach for the future in Marcus Freeman. What does his salary look like when compared to his predecessor, Brian Kelly?
Marcus Freeman was a solid hire for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. When they made the decision to go with him, Notre Dame was clearly focused on continuing what Freeman’s predecessor, Brian Kelly, had accomplished while also looking at the long term big picture for this program.
But what does his contract look like? How much is he being paid? His predecessor is making a lot at LSU. What does Freeman’s salary look like?
Marcus Freeman salary
Specific terms of Freeman’s salary haven’t been released and likely won’t be any time soon. Notre Dame is a private institution and keeps this sort of information pretty quiet, like other similar institutions.
More than likely, based off the way coaches are paid these days and the value of a good coach hired in this coaching cycle, Freeman is being paid pretty well.
According to a report from FootballScoop, Freeman was looking at a five-year contract offer from the Fighting Irish. Freeman also apparently turned down a four-year contract that would have paid him $2.5 million a year that was offered to him by LSU, according to NDInsider.
Freeman is a first-time head coach, so he’s likely not being paid like an experienced and proven head coach, but the market is paying a lot for coaches right now. Florida is paying Billy Napier over $7 million a year throughout his contract. Mel Tucker will make $95 million over 10 years.
First-time head coach Brent Venable sis getting $6.4 million in his first year as the Oklahoma football coach, but he has a lot more experience than Freeman. Freeman is likely a notch below what Oklahoma is paying Venables.
There’s no doubt that Freeman is being paid well.
Freeman could very well be receiving around $5 million a year with room for that to grow thanks to performance based incentives.
Brian Kelly LSU salary
While Freeman’s contract isn’t public knowledge, Kelly’s contract at LSU isn’t a secret. He’s making an absurd amount of money. Kelly is set to make $9.5 million a year over 10 years. He’s also getting some absurd bonuses, some expensive cars, and a nice house loan. LSU is throwing a ton of money his way.
How old is Marcus Freeman?
Freeman is young for a head coach. At just 35 years old, he’s among the youngest head coaches in all of college football. But, his age may not matter all that much. If he’s the right coach, he’s the right coach. We’ll see just how good he is over the length of his tenure, but he’s off to a good start so far.
