Logistician Entry Level Jobs
As a logistician, you will be responsible for the planning and execution of supply chain activities. You will be involved in the development of transportation services, managing warehousing and inventory systems, and setting up distribution channels. Your duties may also include forecasting demand and making forecasts based on market research.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that job opportunities for logisticians will increase by about 12% between 2012 and 2022. This is faster than average growth for all occupations. The BLS also reports that the median salary for a logistician was $69,010 in May 2015.

What Does an Entry-Level Logistician Do?
As an entry-level logistician, your job is to manage the product and supply chain logistics for a company. This often involves understanding how items move within your industry, performing analysis of logistics data, and modeling the most effective routes for manufacturing and shipping needs. This is an entry-level job, so many employers use it as a type of extended training period that allows you to get hands-on experience with the logistics of their industry under the supervision of a more experienced employee. Entry-level logisticians often work on process improvement, implementing ways of tracking and measuring things, and creating reports. Some employers refer to this position as logistics analyst or logistics specialist.
How to Become an Entry-Level Logistician
The primary qualifications for an entry-level logistician position are a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and strong communication skills. Fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of this position requires analytical ability, proficiency with standard office software, and the ability to compare data to existing requirements. Some companies have additional requirements, such as a U.S. government security clearance or knowledge of particular segments of the population. Employers prefer previous experience with supply chains, but this is not necessary to get an entry-level job in logistics. This experience does not have to include managing supply chains, but employers also appreciate applicants who have experience using them, such as by purchasing products for a company or maintaining inventory levels at a warehouse.
