Lobbyist Entry Level Jobs
A lobbyist is a person who works to influence public policy. Lobbyists may be employed by corporations, non-profit organizations or other groups that wish to see certain policies enacted in their favor. Lobbyists can work for lobbying firms or for the organization they are representing.
Lobbyist Entry Level Jobs
In order to become a lobbyist, you will need to have a bachelor’s degree and experience working in politics or law. You should also have excellent communication skills and be able to make persuasive arguments. Since you will be working with elected officials and government officials, you should know how government works as well as how it can be influenced by lobbyists. It’s also important that you’re able to think strategically about how best to advance your client’s interests through politics.

What Does an Entry-Level Lobbyist Do?
As an entry-level lobbyist, your job is to assist the rest of a lobbying department or company with efforts to contact government officials and promote the interests of your client or company. In this role, you may help encourage elected officials to vote a certain way, support them during elections, and otherwise help with lobbying for favorable laws and regulations. As an entry-level lobbyist, your main job is learning how the lobbying system work and how to form effective connections with elected officials. Interns or volunteers often fill this role, as most companies prefer to hire experienced lobbyists who have a proven record of success. Entry-level positions often involve working unpaid to gain the necessary experience.
How to Become an Entry-Level Lobbyist
The primary qualifications for an entry-level lobbyist position vary by company. If you gain experience as a volunteer, you may not need anything more than a high school diploma, though any education or experience in a relevant field can help you stand out from others. Alternatively, some companies hire entry-level lobbyists from the ranks of people who do regulation on the government side. Several years of working for the state or federal congress is often enough to get your foot in the door. Fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of this position requires frequent travel, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to understand proposed bills and their likely effect.
