Johns Hopkins University – Part-Time Online Master of Science in Finance (MSF)

The Carey School of Business at Johns Hopkins University offers an online Master of Science in Finance (MSF) degree. This program focuses on the role of statistical, computational, and econometric techniques in financial decision making. Subjects covered include portfolio allocation, risk management, analysis of complex financial instruments, company valuation, and corporate finance and governance. In order to prepare students for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam, JHU includes a major portion of the CFA Institute’s Candidate Body of Knowledge into the MS in Finance curriculum. The online program is offered on a part-time basis only, whereas campus programs are both part-time and full-time. Students can complete the 36 credits in two years.

The JHU MS in Finance is mostly online with one 3-day campus residency required for the Business Communications course, at the Harbor East Campus, in Baltimore, MD. Courses are offered in 8-week formats and are generally delivered asynchronously, with some synchronous (real-time) activities required. All university resources are available to online students in addition to specialized services specifically designed for online students. Technical requirements for online students include the use of a computer on which several programs can be loaded, up-to-date virus protection, access to broadband of at least 5 MBPS, a webcam and a headset with a microphone.

The online MS in Finance consists of 16 business foundation credits, 12 finance elective credits, and eight functional core credits. Business foundation courses include Accounting and Financial Reporting; Business Communications; Business Leadership and Human Values; Corporate Finance; Economics for Decision Making; The Firm and the Macroeconomy; Investments; and Statistical Analysis. University Of Arizona – Graduate Program: Finance (MS) – Accelerated Master’s Program

General Information

The AMP-Master of Science in Finance program requires 36 credit hours of graduate coursework in Finance (i.e., 12 500-level finance courses). Graduation for AMP-MSF students starting in the fall of their BSBA-Finance senior year is intended to be May of the following year.

Students in the AMP-MSF program take one graduate MSF course each semester of their senior year, one each fall and spring, The specific graduate finance course depends on the planned MSF track of study. These two courses count toward both the BSBA-Finance and AMP-MSF degrees.

The department offers two tracks in our MSF program, Investment Management and Corporate Finance. Planning your curricula around these tracks enhances your job opportunities. The department’s tracks are designed to help you establish a plan and communicate your plan with recruiters through your resume, cover letters, and interviews.

The Master’s in Finance Program at the University of Arizona has been accepted into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program. This status is granted to institutions whose degree programs incorporate at least 70% of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK), which provide students with a solid grounding the Candidate Body of Knowledge and positions them well to sit for the CFA exams. 

The Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association®, the global leader in alternative investment education, and the University of Arizona have formed a strategic partnership between the CAIA Association and the University’s Eller College of Management. Finance

The department offers programs leading to a Master of Science in Finance (MSF) and the Doctor of Philosophy degree with a major in Management and a concentration in Finance (Finance Ph.D.). The department also participates in the program leading to the Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance.

The Master of Science in Finance requires 36 credit hours of graduate coursework in Finance (either 10 courses plus a 6 credit hour project, completed in pairs, or 12 courses). Graduation for students starting in the fall is intended to be mid-August or December of the following year. Students wishing to enroll part-time can contact the department for details.

The Ph.D. in Management with a Major in Finance offered is designed to lead to a career of scholarly research and teaching in finance. The duration of the program is approximately four years, depending on an individual’s background and his or her progress. The first two years of the program are dedicated to coursework. The emphasis during the third and fourth years of the program is primarily on writing a dissertation and coursework in a more narrow area of interest. The dissertation must demonstrate to the faculty the student’s ability to produce advanced research in finance.

Requirements

You must meet the minimum entrance requirements to apply for the AMP-MSF program. The dates below refer to BSBA-Finance students in the second semester core finance courses in Spring 2020.

  • Currently enrolled in FIN412 and FIN421 in Spring 2022 semester.
  • Will have completed 90 undergraduate credit hours by the end of Spring 2022 semester.
  • Have and maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher through graduation and completed a minimum of 12 units of undergraduate credits in the finance major at the University of Arizona’s main campus by Spring 2020.
  • A minimum combined GPA of 3.5 in FIN 360, ACCT400C, FIN412 and FIN421 (12 units), with B’s or better in each of the four classes.
  • Completion or near completion of general education requirements.
  • Submission of a graduate application between May 15 and May 26, 2022 and payment of the UA graduate application fee.
  • Finance faculty recommendation for AMP-MSF program. Demonstration of the maturity necessary for success in an accelerated, highly competitive program.
  • Expectation to complete the undergraduate degree in May 2023, including completion of FIN516 and FIN526 courses, OR FIN513 and FIN532 courses (depending on MSF track of study), during the senior year with a grade of B or better.

 Funding Opportunities

The Department of Finance is provided a modest amount of set-aside scholarship funds each August by the Eller College of Management for MSF students. All incoming MSF students taking are eligible for fall semester set-aside scholarships.  Awards are based on undergraduate academic performance and merits based on students’ application packages.

The department does not have funds for assistantships nor tuition waivers for MSF students.

Additional Information

This is an Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP).

The Graduate College offers exceptional undergraduate students in selected majors the opportunity to earn both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in as few as 5 years. The Accelerated Master’s Program is for the top undergraduates in participating majors who plan to continue in a graduate program in the same, or closely related, UA discipline.

Programs will select from among a qualified pool, based on the following criteria. Individual programs may have more stringent or additional requirements:

  • Completion of a minimum of 75 undergraduate credit hours will be required at the time of application; a minimum of 90 undergraduate credit hours will be required at the time of entry into the AMP. If the student’s GPA falls below 3.30 at the time s/he has completed 90 units, the student will not be admitted into the program. Courses taken for audit may not be included in the total number of units counted for eligibility or admission.
  • Completion of at least 12 earned units of undergraduate course work in the major at the UA.
  • Units still graded Incomplete, units graded Pass/Fail or units taken as audit will not count toward the requirement of the 12 undergraduate units in the major.
  • Completion or near completion of general education requirements.
  • Submission of a graduate application and payment of a graduate application fee.
  • Demonstration of the maturity necessary for success in an accelerated, highly competitive program.
