The refugee crisis is one of the most pressing issues of our time. It’s also one of the most complex and difficult to understand.
We want to help you get involved in this important issue, and we believe that the best way to do that is through an internship with refugees.
Here at [company name], we’ve been working with refugees for years, and we know how important it is to make sure they have everything they need to be successful once they arrive in their new homes. Our company has been helping them find housing, jobs, and schools for their children—and it’s not just about making sure they’re comfortable; it’s also about making sure they feel welcome in their new communities and have a chance at success.
When you intern with us, you’ll work directly with our clients from day one—you’ll be part of their team from start to finish as we help them integrate into society here in the United States. The experience will give you a deeper understanding of what it means for someone who has been displaced by war or persecution to relocate and begin rebuilding their lives in a new country where everything is different from what they’re used to back home.

Internship With Refugees
Introduction
Working as a humanitarian abroad is an extremely rewarding way to spend an internship. When you work with refugees, you are given the opportunity to truly make a difference and experience life through the eyes of someone who has fled their home and country. There are many different organizations devoted to helping those in need. The following list outlines some great opportunities for students hoping to gain valuable experience working with refugees in countries that need it most:
UNHCR
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is the UN Refugee Agency, mandated to protect and assist people forced to flee war, persecution or natural disaster. UNHCR has over 7,000 staff working in more than 70 countries worldwide. Its headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland.
UNHCR offers internships in one of its many offices around the world. You can find out which office you should contact by going online and visiting their website at www.unhcr.org/internships/. You can also email [email protected] with any questions you may have about internships or volunteering opportunities with UNHCR.
AIESEC
AIESEC is an international youth exchange organization that offers you the chance to gain first-hand experience in a country of your choice.
AIESEC is a volunteer-based organization, with more than 35,000 members in over 120 countries and 120 universities worldwide. AIESEC has been working for 58 years now helping students find internships abroad and it still continues to expand its activities by creating new opportunities for young people to develop personally, professionally and culturally through their engagement with others.
IAF
The International Association of Francophone Universities (IAF) is a non-profit organization that aims to promote the development, exchange and cooperation between universities in French-speaking countries.
The IAF currently has over 100 member universities spread across Africa, Asia and South America. These members are home to over 80,000 students from 120 countries. In addition to this, there have been over 1,000 student exchanges within the association since its creation in 1995; furthermore, 100 research projects have been carried out by these institutions—some of which resulted in publications and conferences on French-speaking countries around the world.
Additionally, alumni associations have also grown substantially since its inception: there are now over 100 alumni organizations across more than 20 different countries dedicated solely to helping their fellow former students find jobs or continue their education abroad. In fact one such organization—the African Students Union—has even established branches at each individual university within their network!
RAY
RAY is a refugee-led organization that addresses the needs of displaced people around the world. We are committed to ensuring that all refugees have access to basic rights and opportunities, including education, shelter, food, water and sanitation. We work with youth leaders on projects related to advocacy and developing their leadership skills.
We strive to create a world where no one has to flee their home because of conflict or disaster; where everyone has access to basic rights and opportunities; where every child can grow up happy; where each person feels safe in their community and country; where every woman is given equal opportunity as men; where everyone has enough food for themselves and their families
OXFAM
- OXFAM (Oxfam) works globally to find lasting solutions to poverty, hunger and injustice.
- One way it does this is by providing opportunities for interns to work in developing countries. These internships allow students to gain hands-on experience and develop their skills by working with people affected by poverty.
The goal of an internship at Oxfam is for you to explore your interests, learn about development issues and improve your professional skills. Your time will be spent working with us on projects or campaigns that focus on protecting the rights of women in refugee camps, reducing child marriage rates or preventing the spread of diseases like cholera and malaria through water treatment plants. As an intern, you’ll also have the chance to develop new skills such as communication and decision making while making a positive difference in someone else’s life!
International humanitarian work can be a fulfilling way to spend an internship.
