Internship With Mp
Introduction
A summer internship with the Member for Sydney is a great opportunity to gain practical experience and help you decide on a career path. The program has been specially designed to provide interns with an insight into the work of an MP’s Office. The Member for Sydney seeks outstandingly talented individuals who have demonstrated academic excellence and/or leadership potential. We encourage applications from all backgrounds, including those that are under-represented in politics and public administration, such as Indigenous Australians, people with disability, women and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
We are committed to helping develop the next generation of employees in our state.
Mp is committed to helping develop the next generation of employees in our state. As part of this commitment, we will offer a select number of University students the opportunity to undertake a six week PAID internship over summer. This program aims to provide real world experience for students and give them the opportunity to gain practical skills that will make them more attractive candidates after graduation.
The selection process will be competitive, with applicants demonstrating their suitability through a written application form, academic transcripts and references from university faculty members or employers (if applicable).

You will be placed in an electorate office and work closely with MP’s.
An electorate is the geographical area that an MP represents. They usually have a staff of one or two people who assist them with their duties. These duties include:
- Organising events and meetings
- Providing constituent services (including answering questions and feedback)
- Development policy advice to constituents on local issues
The internship program is designed for university students who want to experience a professional work environment and apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting.
The internship program is designed for university students who want to experience a professional work environment and apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting. You will be working in an electorate office, which provides you with hands-on experiences that you can use as references on your resume and in future job interviews.
You will also have the opportunity to learn about the parliamentary system by observing how parliamentarians interact with their constituents, colleagues and staff members. As interns, we are given challenging tasks that require creativity, problem solving skills and teamwork capabilities. We often have to work under tight deadlines because MPs receive a lot of requests from their constituents every day. In order to meet these deadlines successfully we need everyone’s help; this is why we always encourage interns to participate actively during meetings or events so they can gain more experience!
Interns will undertake tasks that assist the member in their electorate office and within the community through regional visits.
